That's a little bit of a haul for me. I'd probably have to break it up into a 2 day tow, there and back. I was actually thinking about taking the GT Mustang this year to give the Mach a break while I made some changes to it. As much as I hate the thought of not taking the Mach, I might have to give that a serious consideration.

Thanks for that update, Kevin.

For me it's not any further than going to Hebron, OH last year. Google maps says 14 1/2 hrs to Atlanta. One thing is for sure, it is a lot more densely populated back east so there shouldn't be any 6+ hr interstate trips! I guess I better get my motels lined out. :)

Rooms booked and now I'm ready for re-registration free for all! :) Another thing about 2018 is there are a lot more motels to choose from so getting a room probably won't be a problem.

Yes, kind of...

People started booking motel rooms the afternoon of the day the tracks were announced, and that seems to happen every year, and many of the popular hotels will fill quickly, however I wouldn't panic yet - a lot depends on how many motel rooms there are in an area of course. I would think an area like Atlanta has a lot of rooms. It depends too on what else might be going on in that area at that time. Quite a few of the people booking rooms will figure out next summer their car won't be done, or they can't get off work, and will cancel their reservations, so you may be able to pick up those rooms if you keep checking back. Also, some participants will be cancelling rooms during the week when they break down and aren't able to continue. An additional observation - as Dragweek has become more popular around the world, many come here from other countries, not just to participate but to watch & travel along, I've seen reports of them booking their rooms already too. All those Hot Rod media people will have rooms booked too, along with the vendors that support the event, so they are eating up some available rooms.

I will add though, last year I booked a room for myself on each of the last two days for that evening while still at the track sitting in the staging lanes. As soon as Hot Rod announced the route each day and I could see where it was taking us I used my phone to search for hotels in the area's along the way. I was able to get rooms at nice motels, and reasonable rates, although the one day I still had a bit of a drive the next morning to get to the track, point just being you may not be able to get the closest motel. Having a smart phone isn't necessarily a requirement for Dragweek, but it definitely comes in handy. I would recommend too, if you aren't already, register for some of the popular chain hotel websites, so you will able to easily book when you find something. If you are booking way ahead pay close attention if the room is cancel-able, I've seen a few people not realize they are booking a non-refundable room and then not get their car finished.

Hot Rod will announce the day and time when pre-registration will begin usually a Saturday around April. you just need to be at your computer when it opens up with all your information right there and TYPE FAST! It has been selling out in less the ten minutes the last few years. Good luck!

As has been posted already, no announcement yet on registration day, but there is usually a little warning. The previous years top class finishers usually get to register a week ahead of everyone else, so there is a little warning there too as word gets spread. We’ve mentioned before, take note of the “how to get on the waiting list” info too, if you don’t get registered before it fills sign up on the waiting list right away. Hot Rod hasn’t even announced the new rules yet, it’s driving the people building new cars or making major changes nuts. Quite a few people on the forums have posted they won’t be able to go this year, but there have been many who are excited it’s coming closer to them and are planning on going, so it will be interesting to see how it sorts out. Just keep plugging away, always best to be prepared, but you’ll be in good company if you’re not lol.

Hot hot hot
Humid humid humid

And low-density population doesn't make traffic around/in Atlanta any less slow slow slow.

Hot Rod just announced this evening that Drag Week registration will go live on Sat March 3rd at 3pm eastern time. Check out the Hot Rod website for full details. Pre-registration will be limited to 400 entries and probably fill up in minutes. New this year is there will be a link to the waitlist when pre-registration fills up instead of the old method of sending an email. Pre-registration fees are non-refundable, but you don’t have to pay to sign up on the waitlist until your spot comes up. Drag Week rules are on the Hot Rod website too. Good luck and let us know if you get in!
