When the 428 CJ came about in mid 68 Ford just grabbed the old 390 4bbl GT cam and called it done. Maybe an okay choice for the general use with mild gears auto trans and A/C options.
However did they miss the boat a bit with the SCJ package ?  If I remember they had a better camshaft specd out for the 50-100 cars that were built for NHRA class racing.

Wow some great manifold design and fabricating there Jay!  Could you make a tunnel wedge like that last version to fit a 351/427 9.5 deck Windsor?

Well brought the thing in the house where it is warm and took cover off. What little is in there looked fine and then plugged it in and took voltage checks at 6 Volt Fast
12 Volt Slow     12 Volt Fast and 12 Volt Boost.   This is a 40 Amp/ 225 Boost Start charger and the voltage output to my meter was   8.45     13.0     14.4  and 17.0 on the Boost Start all with
only the voltmeter as the load.
Then I set up a large electric cooling fan from a Ford vehicle that pulls around 30 amps. Checked the voltage with fan running on the 12 Volt Slow charge setting and got 10 volts and 12 on the 12 volt Fast setting and a reading of 32 Amps on the Amp meter. Voltage showing a bit low due to my tap wires not quite heavy enough guage.

So looks like the charger is working fine now.  The battery in my Mustang is at 12.62 right now so it is in fine shape.

Thanks Pat for your reply.  I found a site that has replacement parts for some of the Sears units and all the electrical parts like diodes and such are discontinued. Didn't see anything about a regulator or even transformer.   Most likely will just buy a new charger.

Have my old Sears Heavy Duty charger/booster and it has worked well for over 25 years. However now when you hook it to a battery for a charge the voltage jumps
to 15-16 volts measured at the battery while charging. Of course I shut it down so as not to overcharge the battery. Battery was at 12.5 before any charge.
Output at the charger leads with no battery hooked up is 13.7 when in the slow charge selection. Charger never used to act this way.

FE Technical Forum / Re: Manifold PCV Do's and Don'ts or Don't do?
« on: December 13, 2021, 02:12:20 PM »
I built this setup for my Mustang.  PCV line from valve cover valve goes into the 2 stage separator tank which has a drain tap at bottom. Then the intake vac. flow travels from tank into a clear type fuel filter to catch anything that comes thru and also a good visual aid as to how it is working. I get about a teaspoon or so of oil after a month or so of cruising use when I drain the tank.
I mounted the PCV valve at front of valve cover.

That is a wild looking carb with great features. Look at all those air bleeds you might need!  The 750 carb has 1.250 venturies....how do they flow that much?

Yep light weight fasteners too! A certain white 1968 Firebird supposedly had a bunch of titanium fasteners.

I was at one of the races several years ago looking at Dave's 69 Hemi RR and got a laugh when it took a lot of effort for him to raise the trunk lid! ;D
No minimum weight and put it where it will do most good.

They will be at MIR

I run the 3 inch version of these and absolutely no drone and not as loud as the old Flowmaster 2 chamber mufflers. A totally different sound. See if I can get a video clip of them on my car.

Here is an inside sound video just after I had installed the Pro Series mufflers.  1985 Mustang LX coupe with 550 HP 427 Windsor.

Been using them since they came out with the Innovate and now run the AEM gage which is easier for me to see.  You will be using it a lot to tune your part throttle cruise ratio.
Depending on your engine setup you might find a 13.8 ratio is the leanest your engine might tolerate without a surge or stumble. Others might run smooth with a 14.40 at part throttle cruise.
Intake manifold, cam and gear ratio will make a difference.  Be ready to adjust your Idle Air Bleed restrictor jets for a final tune depending on seasonal weather changes.

On my setup my IAB can vary from .068 to .073 depending on cold or hot weather. My sensor is at the collector.

Run 3 inch to your mufflers and 2 1/2 tailpipes.   I have run every muffler there was on my 1985 Mustang LX with 5.0  351W and now 427W. I run 3 inch with H pipe combo and 2 1/2 inch short pipes that go over the axle and exit right behind rear tires. This kept the drone down.
Best mufflers so far as of 4 months ago are the Flowmaster Pro Series Hush type 3 inch core. Quiet but will handle 600+ HP. They have a 6 inch OD case and I fit them under my Mustang with enough room not to drag on speed bumps. The Magnaflow 3 inch round mufflers with a 5 inch OD case are good too. The original GM Corvair Turbo mufflers 1965 I believe with 2 1/2 inch pipe size were awesome back in the early 70's with good flow and a great sound. Used those back in the 70's.

Yes it's those little simple things that can be overlooked while sorting out a new car project.  A real Cobra with a 427 a 1966 model?   That thing is worth a cool Million and must be
wild to drive around in. Be careful with the aluminum body! Any pictures?
