Pistons for my mild 428 build
« on: May 14, 2015, 03:21:06 AM »
G'day all,

My machinist has cleaned up the bores on my 428 at +.030 and is having some trouble sourcing pistons here in Aus, for the "right price".  He got onto some Badger pistons out of Sydney but when pressed, the supplier couldn't .... er ... supply.

The motor is a mild build; edelbrock heads & intake (not RPM), Sanderson shortie headers, Comp cams XE262H.  Use is Driver/cruiser, occasional long trips like Summer nats, maybe 1000miles return, occasional run down the strip "nostalgia drags" style just for fun. Aiming at 9.5 to 10:1 static for this torque monster.

What say the brains trust???

I'd pick Probe over TRW/Sealed power/Speed Pro. The quality of the machining on the TRW's is not what it used to be.

My machinist just used some Mahle cast pistons on a 445 stroker build.  He liked the quality and tolerances on balance an size quite a bit.

Thanks Guys,

I went for the Speed Pro, forged for a similar price to other cast pistons.  Converted to Aussie dollars, 620 bucks!!.
