Finaly im making some progress.First im building the 390 pi that came in the Galaxie.Nothing to write home to
mum about realy but BruceS wanted some pictures. The block I was going to use for the stroker was cracked.
I preassure tested it with 6Kg/cm2 with no leak and no
vissible crack so i thought it was ok. But when i started to grind on it the crack become vissible for the
naked eye. i Could not find another block so i ordered parts for the pi and delivered it to the machine shop
for a line hone and paralell decking and a hone with stress plates. There came the next setback he was
retireing and closing the shop
I sweet talked him in to do my block. With the new pistons it cleaned up all
scratces and stayed within tolerances. Then ifound a block for the stroker thanks to Landlubberatsea on this
forum. So its in the machine shop now (more sweet talking)
I could not find my cambearingtool i made 35 years ago. So i borrowed a tool from a friend
and the bearings ended up crocked
i tried to straigten them
up. and it ended with i bought new bearings and searced for
my own tool and found it
So i installed the cam and crank a couple of weeks ago
Today i installed the rod and pistons
I had no piston cone for 4.11 so i made one in the lathe from som bronze scrap my father had in the
foundry
checking the ring gap
Mounting the rings
The PI rods was realy beat up luckily the cracked engine had reconditioned rods and was a auto with
hydraulic cam so less risk its over reved in the past
Paralell decked to zero
I painted the block first with one cote PPG epoxi primer and then two coats PPG Global Black mixbase
OOOOPS Forgot to mount one..............No i counted them before i started and there was 17
Ok tolerances, On the big side but HV pump so...
opened up the pump and preoiled it
A new pump allready scratched
To soft Steel in the cover
Nice collection in the oil pick up
i know many that just reuse the old pickup and this is what you find in them
Opened it up and going to let it soak overnight then im going to install some perforated steel and fold the edge
back over. Ikea got cheap kitchen utensils made of perforated stainles so i have to go there if i dont find any
in the garage......How shall i manage that without taking the wife with me and spend a whole day at Ikea
