I was going to build GT40 replica.... someone says a Porsche transaxle will work.... what about this one? Is that a good price? :)

Who would spend that much money on a swing axle setup, anyway?

That transaxle, isn't much stronger that a std VW bug. The 550 Spyder was only 1500CC. The Bug transaxle can be upgraded to hold 200hp, with all Hewland innards and would be stronger than the 550. That's what is in my car, pictured below.
A ZF transaxle, like used in the original 289, GT40 would be bare minimum strength for a FE and you'd have to be careful. But, the Hewland, 4 speed, LG500, is the one that will work. They are expensive and hard to find. The LG stands for Large Gear Box, the 500 for torque.

An appropriate transaxle to use in a Ford GT would be one of the modern dual-clutch units used in a 900 series Porsche. They'll take enough power to get a 3500 pound car into the 8s. It'll NOT be inexpensive, however.

One more generation and nobody will even know who James Dean was. I admit I was a big JD fan when I was a kid. Not enough to spend that much on an obscure part from the car he was killed in, but I was a fan. I liked his Mercury in Rebel Without A Cause better. I used to go to his memorial run in Fairmont on a regular basis when it started. That was a very cool, and BIG event, until they split.

About 75 or 76 i put together a rear engined 64 or 5 econline pick up with a 428 in it.
It wasn't the most perfect job as I didn't have a lot of money and wasn't that good a welder.
I used a rear axel set up from a wrecked 72 corvette.
It worked ok except when you really got on it.
Kept sheering off the ring gear bolts.
Was a lot of fun and would do a wheelie for a long time untill you sheered off the bolts.
Was a bit dangerous and real hard to keep in a stright line but fun.

That's half a million Canadian... pretty sure there are a few other choices that could save a couple bucks. The wrecked car still exists if you read all the comments, and the engine will probably come up for auction before too long.

TomP , if you're really looking for a Porsche transaxle, I have a 6 speed available. Shoot me an email, if interested. If you were just posting strictly for humor/wow info, that was definitely a WOW auction!
