replacement battery for 1963 galaxie with factory battery tray
« on: November 01, 2022, 05:32:13 PM »
What are you guys using for battery's that fit without modify the tray or the hold down plate ?I've tried the original looking battery with a big price and little life. I'm looking for any suggestion on this topic. 1963 galaxie 427 ci would prefer the AGM style battery but not sure if they last very long. Thanks for any ideas

Blackie, I don't know where you're located but I used a small battery business in Wichita.  They were able to use my dimensions and hold-down reqmts. and came up with a maintenance-free battery made in Korea that fit perfectly.  I paid about $120. for it which was about the going price at the time.  It's about 4 years old now and still going strong.  Maybe there's a similar business close to you?

A Motorcraft BTX 36R (650 cca) with a small block of wood on the alternator side has worked perfectly for me since 2015. Just have to trim the hold down tab off of the one side at the bottom. I plan to replace it this coming Spring, but will see how a blue top I have on hand fits first.
