I think this was the 8.88 run. That thing is planting HARD! Sure looks like those slicks might be hitting the wheel well but maybe not.

Nice pic!!! Anyone know how he made out today after the run? HotRod said he was having crank trigger problems.
-
That looks AWESOME!!
Still on footbrake?
-
Foot brake at Indy??? Not on that launch....I'd be driving it like it was rented AND stolen! 8)
-
Yeah, that's my new desktop pic. :)
-
Somebody who knows 4 links look at this picture and help Jay dial the rear set up in. Has to be some time tuning that roll out of it.
-
Remember he only has 3 runs on that set up.
I'm sure if he gets his other problems licked he'll be able to dial it in a bit more. :)
-
If I was leading the class I'd be afraid to mess with it. I wouldn't want to put it on the bumper since it has no wheelie bars. But your right theres more left in the car. I'd say its a pretty incredible machine with only 2 passes on it and running this good.

Jays run today.

Just watched the video. I like Freiberger but I hope he eats his words at the end of the week. Great run by Jay.

Typical Mopar guy :P
-
That launch looks pretty darn good in real speed (not stop action).
-
I'm no suspension expert, especially with a 4 link, (I'm still a leaf spring guy) but I would imagine an anti-roll bar would help... and/or staggered shock settings if no bar, like more compression on the passenger side and more extension on the driver side would help.

I'm with Cjetmech on this one. The racing gods have sprinkled some magic dust on that car for it to launching so well right out of the box. Jay's too smart to mess with a good thing right now. There are probably a few 4-link setting combinations that would work better, but literally dozens of others that would be a lot worse!
I bet Jay has that crank trigger wiring wrung out by now. Even if he has to solder in a length of extension cord through the passenger window, that car should be running tomorrow.
-
Agree
Remember last year and all the thought and geometry that went into the setting it was left at after/during the rod busting?
That's were it is now with only 3 runs on it and it's flying.
-
Sorry I'm no pro racer, I sure as hell did not stay at a Holiday Inn last night. But I did watch Jay lay down a 8.88 @ 149.02 today and 8.91 @149 yesterday . That absolutely magnificent SHELBY with what must be the biggest SOHC ever built, bounced on the rev limiter and ran straight down the track like she was on rails. One Pass Each Day.
CJ SHAKER: Great job catching the mark on the video---!
....what's better then Jay flipping a giant bird at the tower as he drove by with the radio on!
-
LOL
I think we all pretty much agree BB.
Just a bunch of guys starving for information and over analyzing a still photo. :)
Just bench racing. Which is all we can do right now 'cause we're not out there.
-
I'm with XR7, first thing I thought was anti-roll set-up, also looking close the tires are wadded up pretty good maybe a touch more air too. But Jay has experience and knows what to do, I like the one pass done right and pack up for tomorrow. Also the Miller Cougar is strong and Alan Cassida is running well too!!............Al
-
A FordFE.com member who was there just posted that Jay got the crank trigger sorted out and all is well. He was in good spirits as he loaded up for the next leg.
BOOOYAH!
-
Jay stated something about two racing licenses he owns and the IHRA one will allow him to turn the wick-up Sat at the Hot Rod event where as the NHRA would not hmmmm
-
Yes, Alan's car is running well also. Unfortunately I didn't find Scott Miller's run in his Cougar. Alan's run is early and can be seen here

Kevin's run, also looking good but he's got stiff competition running right on the index.

Scott's run. Looking real good and having clean runs. Bummer about Jack's car, seems it blew oil out of the valve cover and it got sucked into one of the blowers and detonated a piston. It would have been cool to see a father/son FE team go the distance.

Jay had an eventful day today, and it's going to make great reading when he makes his blog post. But he may be too tired tonight to write it up until later. At this point it does look like he will be at the track tomorrow.
-
Someone please remind me. What transmission is Jay running in his GT500?
-
Sadly it's a Power-Slide :'(

Just a bunch of guys starving for information and over analyzing a still photo. :)
If that was directed at me... I was just trying to help, not bash in any way. I realize it isn't in the cards for a anti roll bar at this point, but the shock adjustments could help, and can be done quick and easy. I figured Jay would read that and perhaps keep it in mind, and maybe try it at some point, just a click or two depending on what shocks he has ( I would assume double adjustable).
Someone else mentioned more air pressure in the slicks. That will help as long as it will still hook, the car will definitely MPH higher with more air pressure.
I agree that the car is working pretty good and laying down numbers, don't fix it if it isn't broke... but baby steps man, small adjustments, test and tune. There is always more in it.
-
Before reading about the Watts linkage coming loose in Jay's day 2 update I would have said that the car needs to be scaled to check the corner weights. That's critical with any drag car particularly the 4 link cars. The Watts linkage moving will certainly change suspension movement and cause that kind of launch though.
Curious to see how it does today with the suspension tightened up. Go Jay Go!! I'm living vicariously through you!!

Jay just gave a GREAT interview on the live feed

Not directed at you at all. I was using the over analyzing line in jest.
In fact I was adding myself into the mix in the hopes of not offending anyone.
Just a bunch of guys talking racing.
No worries :)

Caught Jays interview.
Frieburger acknowledged giving Jay grief and was cool.
-
Jay just ran 9.11
Lots of tire spin off the line.
-
Finally went 8.94 @ 150.00 for all 8's so far in drag week. Joe-JDC
-
What did the Nova that is chasing him run?
-
I'm glad the Watts showed itself on the road and not on the top end!
Just because I mentioned it,did the car launch more level today with the rear tightened up?
Go Jay , holding an all 8's average ;D.
Pulling for you here in Texas!
-
What did the Nova that is chasing him run?
Best of 9.06 that I saw but I missed the last couple hrs.

I saw that too Marc, I really think Jay did an excellent job letting him know he wasn't happy with his comment. The interview went well and Jay explained himself and turned the interview around in a very positive way and I think Frieburger appreciated that as well.
I don't think I could have handled it that good. Great job Jay!

Did anybody catch the time of the Jay interview?
Joe

I just updated some new links in the other thread. The interview is included.

Sadly it's a Power-Slide :'(
As in GM Powerglide? Does it have a Gear Vendors OD? Interesting
-
Yes a 2 speed GM based Powerglide and a Gear Vendors O.D. unit.
-
Yes, a (cough) GM powerslide. ::) And yes, it's got a Gear Vendors overdrive.

Powerglides are a solid trans. I see them in used successfully in big power imports as well. I'm curious why a C4 wouldn't work? We put nearly 1000hp through them without a hiccup. Maybe the PG's can take substantialy more than a C4?
-

Does Jay shift the PG manually? Not sure if there are rules that require that or not?
-
Just did a bit of research. Seems that Powerglides can handle huge power, 2500hp if built right. The max a C4 can handle is 1000hp. Guessing Jay wanted the extra buffer with the Powerglide.
