Main hoop being bent for roll bar...
« on: April 02, 2019, 09:17:35 PM »
This video popped up on my "recommended" list on YouTube. An S&W Race Cars video of them bending a Mustang roll bar main hoop. They just added this video 2 weeks ago. I just ordered my 8 point from them almost 3 weeks ago and got it delivered just last week. It has the same shape as the one in the vid. This has to be my hoop. At least that's my story, and I'm stickin' with it..lol   ??? :o 8)

Doug, It must be yours. I mean how many Mustangs gets a rollbar? ;D
I remember the first cage i did,It was a 68 Dart
I had no bending machine, but the dart owner knew of a guy that made
rallycross cages that could bend the hoops
No problem come by with the body so i can meassure my self so it fits
and i do it while you wait,,,,yea right .Took several days and
when he delivered the body to my place the cage fitted outside
the body :o ;D ;D. The guy blamed it on he had never done a Dragracing cage ::)

Heo, since they only bend them when they get an order, and I don't think it's a big company, I actually do think it's my hoop. Or it's a big coincidence.

I don't recall seeing any rally cars with an external cage, only some rock and hill climbing deals with no bodies to speak of. Would that be considered an exo-cage? Kind of like an exo-skeleton..lol

Looks good.

When I made the hoop for the wagon, I draw a box on the floor with the outline of the inside of the car and bent it to fit.  Worked pretty well actually.  Though the bender I used was a manual version.  Don't think my back would put up with it 20 yrs later.

I've got two S&W bars - they fit well and were an easy install.  When I did the Falcon, they even sent some engineering drawings for me to measure against so we could pick the right main hoop.

Good to hear you went with the Rhodes Race cars swing outs. Those are the ONLY ones I will install in a customers car.

I borrowed a guys bender to do the 64 Comet, in chrome moly... that stuff is tough to bend with a manual bender. I ended up having to drill holes in the concrete and bolt the bender to the floor to get enough leverage.

A tip to all that build a garage, when you pour the concrete.
Put in a 1/2 inch plate about 2x2 feet on a strategic place
so you can drill and thread to mount and remove a bender etc
that you only use now and then. That way you can mount it in
the middle of the garage with plenty of room around it when you
use it
