Title: August 6, 2012 - The Road to Drag Week 2012
Post by: jayb on August 06, 2012, 11:16:24 PM
Got a big milestone out of the way last week with the dyno testing on my high riser motor.  Today I ordered the rear end gears (4.71) and the converter (6200 stall) for the Mach 1, and am planning the installation of the engine in the car the week after next.  Over the weekend I got a lot of help from Brad and Joel; Brad did at least half the wiring on the EFI system on the high riser, and Joel got the Mach 1's nitrous system and electronics and cables/hoses all disassembled, so that the engine is ready to go into the car.

I also got an email tonight from the Drag Week organizers, and my Galaxie is now #13 on the waiting list to get in.  They said that as some racers drop out people will come off the waiting list and be entered in the event, so it is looking pretty positive at this point that the Galaxie will get to compete.

Speaking of the Galaxie, we are taking it to the track this weekend to run license passes for Joel, Steve, and Brad so that they can get their NHRA license.  It will be interesting to see how the Gal runs at the track with the 519" SOHC.  I'm figuring around 9.80, because it ran 9.50s with the 585" engine and it is now down about 50 HP from that level, but I guess we will find out this weekend.  I'll try to post some track videos when we get back.

Finally I checked today on the big SOHC engine at the machine shop, and they said it should be ready for me to pick up by this weekend.  So over the weekend I hope to get the short block together, so that next weekend I can get that engine on the dyno.  That engine will be much less problematic than the high riser, since it is just going back together the same way it came apart last fall, and I already have the wiring harness for the ems-pro all set up and ready to run on the dyno.

I'll try to post another update next weekend, hopefully with some track video of the Galaxie.

Well, you are #12 now. Due to some unexpected setbacks, I turned in my registration last night.  :(
Good luck!

Jay, things are really looking up for having all 3 cars ready. :D Last weekend was a lot of fun, spending 2 days working on the cars and dynoing the high riser. I think I removed at least 50 pounds, maybe more, from the Mach I; tearing out the nitrous system, the boost cooler, and all the associated wires, hoses and guages.  But I have to admit, my butt was dragging on the ground by Sunday night. Yesterday I started a new excersise regimine to get back in shape so I'll have the stamina to make it through the grueling trials of Drag Week in the hot, humid, south. I'll be over tonight to work on the Shelby and Thurseday night as well. I'm really getting enthused about Drag Week, especially now with the High Riser done and the good news about the Galaxie! Sorry to hear that Alan, I was looking forward to meeting you at the event.  Maybe next year...
