FE Technical Forum / Re: 427 with 4.280 pistons?

Personally, I would sleeve those two cylinders and keep the bore as small as possible. If the rest of the block will clean up at .030, that's where I would stop.

After years of chasing it is almost worth it to pull the thing and stick it on a dyno so you can stand next to it and put your head against the valve covers or oil pan.  I've had some really crazy stuff make noises - windage trays and the flat tin under an intake will amplify the smallest contact and make it sound horrific.  I've had rockers touch an otherwise well clearanced valve cover in one spot, I've had one rod bolt touch a tray, I've had a single broken inner valve spring, I've had the dipstick wrap up, I've had a fuel pump with a broken return spring, I've had a roller lifter tie bar hitting the block, I've had worn rockers clip on a valve tip - - seems like I've found every one of them only after eliminating a million other items....

Had a knock in an truck and finally figured out the passenger side rear view mirror was loose...  Would have sworn it was a piston skirt or wrist pin.

Wow, if you have a gennie B-M intake for a 351C (not a 302 Boss, aka Windsor block) that is a rare beast indeed! Should do well even on a big FE due to total plenum volume.

Had one of those Bud Moore Cleveland intakes with a Dominator on it about 30 years ago. Spent what I thought was a lot of money on it and sold it for about ten times what I paid for it! I wish I still had it!

It does have an oil dipstick, right? That reads full when it's full, right? If it does, it is his fault it wasn't full. And if you told him you put the sealer in it, he should have made sure the cooling system was working correctly, before giving the car back to you. I'm not trying to trash the guy but these are simple things, especially the oil level. If I change the oil on a vehicle, the very last thing I do before it hits the road is to recheck the level to be sure it's correct.

Yes, if you pull the heads and intake off of an engine, you definitely need to change oil and filter. However, He should have seen that it was low after refilling it.

I have several dozen of these I ended up with years ago. $15.00 each plus shipping or $25.00 a pair plus shipping. If you need a bunch, I'll make a good deal on them.

Eons ago when I was working with Mercedes-Benz electronics, there was a company called Wurth Electrik that supplied us with connectors like that. I'll have to dig them out but actually have factory M-B parts in the bag with the Ford oval on them. I agree with Jay, I would probably solder and splice onto what you have.

Rhinosoft,
Let us know where you are located and I would bet someone close would be willing to give you a hand. At least, guide you in the right direction.

My first car was a '65 F100 with 352 and three speed. More rust than metal. At the time there was a 65 crew cab in my favorite junk yard. It was a former Georgia DOT truck. 2WD but I wanted it badly to build. But as a 15 year old, it didn't happen. I wonder if its still there 34 years later.....

Jason, any way to have some flats machined into the dowel to use a wrench on?

Also, check harmonic balancer. I've seen one that the rubber was separating on and it would make a weird knock. Also, saw a brand new brand x pickup engine replaced under warranty at the dealership........ Only to find out driver's door mirror loose......
