Went directly to Jayb first and he told me to pose it to the forum. Building a 410 fe for a customer, has already been built previously and bored .30 with dish pistons. Customer is putting it in a 57 ford and wanting to add some pep. Is there any off the shelf flat top pistons available or something that will work? Engine will have edelbrock heads and rpm intake.
Will a 390 piston work?

Even the 428 Cobra Jets had dished pistons, and they had 10.7-1 compression. How deep is the dish on the current pistons? 390 pistons won`t work, as they will stick out above the blocks deck surface. Different compression height. On the regular 428s, and possibly 410s, the dish is deep enough that the eyebrows basically disappear, on the CJ pistons, the eyebrows are fully formed all the way around. Unless they have a deeper than OE dish, depending on the cylinder heads used, you should be at least 9.5-1 compression, don`t know if you really want to go a whole lot higher for a pump gas street engine with a mild cam. I have the FPA headers on my 59 Fords 428, and although rather pricey, they fit really well, and are much better than the typical log exhaust manifolds needed for these applications. Plus the FPAs do not hang down low, or dump into the stock transmission crossmember, like most other headers seem to on these cars. Headers,cam, and intake & carb can wake these engines up pretty good. What is his intended use for the car, and transmision and rearend gearing?

As above - I wouldn't make any call on parts until you do a complete assessment on the condition, including real measurements to figure existing compression. Factual numbers required for decision making. Nothing wrong inherently with a dish in a piston.

C-6, mild stall, 3.25 gear....mainly just a street cruiser, with the need to smoke a tire occasionally. Guy is a fe junkie and has had several fe powered fords through the years and is building this car as his last hoorah. The pistons in the engine had a fairly deep dish with no eyebrows.

What Falcon67 said and Rory with FPA.I would go with the 3" outlet and reduce to 2 1/2" out the muffler.I type this wishing I had done so.
