FE Technical Forum / Cam bearing orientation
« on: April 09, 2016, 09:25:26 PM »
Started putting together my short block but having questions now of the way I installed the cam bearings. Number 1 is obvious.  But 2-5,I put at 3 o'clock as per Barry's book. ( he said 2-4 are normally installed at 3 o'clock because of the oil groves in the block) Mine has an oil groove in the 5'th Bering journal also so I installed it at o'clock also. Is this right?

FE Technical Forum / End stands required?
« on: April 06, 2016, 11:42:53 AM »
A couple questionns. First I'm going to be running the xe 274 cam on either comps 924 springs or on a set of Howard's springs the comp springs are 112 seat and 303 open pressure and the Howard's are 110 seat and 315 open. With this sit up are end stands for the rocket shafts required? And the second question is which springs would you guys prefer?

Member Projects / Why not?

This was my great grandmothers car. She passed about 14 years or so ago and when my grand father was trying to figure out what to do with " that piece of junk"I helped him out with $200. Now I was 16 and had huge plans of a 427 4 speed drag car but girls and such changed all that. It sat for several years before I got it and it sat until this past summer, when I got the itch for it again. The guys at work thought I was joking that I was pulling an old wagon out of the weeds to drive daily, or atleast until the night I drove it to work. Lol all they could do is ask why. I just smiled and asked why not. It's far from nice but I can still remember driving to town with her to get chicken so she could make us some of her famous pan fried chicken when she watched us in the summer.

FE Technical Forum / C4ae-g heads
« on: July 04, 2015, 06:46:22 PM »
Just thought I'd post a couple pics and get a few opinions of a little port work. I cc'd the heads prior to grinding on them. They where 142 which I thought they where supposed to be around 150 which after porting (minus a little blending left to do) they measured at 153cc's. I guess I was wondering if anyone cc'd these heads before and after mild porting. I just tried to straighten the sides, raised the roof slightly and a little pocket porting. I left the short side alone except a little clean up of the casting flash.

FE Technical Forum / adjustable rockers.
« on: July 05, 2014, 01:38:49 AM »
What are my options for adjustable rockers. I want to shy away from aluminum. Seems like every time I come across factory rockers they are in the $400 dollar range then when you ad in the cost of end supports and hd shafts your at the price of after market stuff. I've found the Shelby's  http://www.shelbyengines.com/products/shelby-fe-rocker-arms and prw's http://www.cnc-motorsports.com/roller-rockers-and-stud-girdles/prw-3239022-ford-fe-shaft-mount-stainless-steel-rocker-arms.html. Are there any other choices and any one have any experience with these two Thanks Matt

FE Technical Forum / pre 66 or post 66
« on: March 09, 2012, 01:33:40 AM »
Building a 390 and just wondering if there was any one with actual flow or dyno # for the tall port and low port fe heads. Didn't know which might respond better to the standard upgrade 2.09 1.65 valves with a mild clean up. The pre 66 obviously are bigger but It's just the floor that's lowered. I'm not an export head porter but it looks like it just hurts the short turn. I have set of c8ae-h and c4ae-g. One set for the stang and the other for the f-250. I'm planning on running a 294s with a streetmaster intake and approx. 3000 stall. Haven't decided on gears 373-410 any suggestions would be appreciated. One more ? do you guys think this combo is capable of low 12's or high 11's. Thanks Matt.

Just started reading around on diferent forums and noticed talk about heads and header problems. just didn't know if any knew of what headers work with what heads in a 67mustang.
