FE Technical Forum / Re: Oil
« on: August 24, 2015, 02:11:10 PM »
I second the straight weight in hi hp and hi rpm engines.  Even in street Fe's I always liked the straight 40.
A far cry from when I pop the hood on my 2010 mercury that calls for 5w20 .

Thanks guys for all the input.  Its always nice to hear what you had hoped to.
I remember Charlie Peppers mountain motor pro stocker having 8 - 10 lb of oil pressure idling.  I was like WOW . just as you guys have said though he said he would have about 110lb - 120lb going through the traps. I always loved those mountain motor pro stocks.. I hope they make a resurgence.

Back in the mid 80's I took a set of $$63-406$$ heads to the so called best shop around at that time. Got the engine together and every one of the exhaust guides moved and a couple slipped nearly all the way out. Those heads were valuable even back then and I never been so mad in my life. No one wanted to touch them after that. I sent them off to Holbrook and they did an awesome job of repairing them without having to do much damage.  They were nice heads and eventually I traded them for a dove tunnel ram, a clutch and pressure plate and bellhousing and a set of old coyote headers lol.

Id like to hear some input on oil pressure versus volume in a higher rpm race type Fe engine.  What kinda pressures do you guys like to see ? When should you worry about washing the bearings out and over heating. ?  I have always went the volume route and not stressed to much over pressure but id like to hear what you guys think.

Private Classifieds / PSE Base/intake combo. SOLD SOLD
« on: August 18, 2015, 09:21:55 PM »
SOLD

FOR SALE
PSE Fe intake base/Cleveland 2v-3v sheet metal intake combo. I have had this base for 15 years and it has served me well, right now its port matched to a pro power fabricated intake. I used pro poxy for the ports so it can easy be hogged back out to a 4v if wanted. This base has been massaged a few times but is in great shape with no leaks. Needs a good home and some massaging and is a great candidate for someone. I had planned on keeping the base and using it on the nostalgia blower motor with a Cleveland blower manifold but the guy decided to go small block, Its plumbed for reverse cylinder head cooling but ill furnish caps or you can remove fittings and instal 3/8" npt plugs. Intake runners are also tapped to 1/8" npt and pluged for old style fogger nozzles.  The Cleveland fabricated intake has had the belly cut out so its pretty much only good to be used on a base or could be used on a Cleveland with a modified/fabricated belly pan. Includes neoprene custom intake gaskets, stainless hardware,  brass caps for flair fittings.
Also available is a holley 850 annular boster dbl pumb carb. No choke, duel 50cc pumps , rear jet exstentions, nice old carb ready to run.
Port matched Adapter base  + manifold combo - $900.oo
Add carb - $300.oo
Full or part trades considered,  what ya got ?

SPRING COMPRESSOR
I have one of these also. Nice piece. I still use my old thinner nylon rope though cause I can feed more in and with pop up pistons it tends to work its way in place and. Hold the valves up well. First time I seen that rope trick was when I was like 12. Pops was putting seals on the 390 66 galaxie.
Tim has some nice stuff. I got one of his stud girdles in the past. Made a few of my own since then, shushhh lol. Ill be using one on my build here soon.

I learned how to drive in my uncle's 68 mustang fastback . 390 4v with a top loader and 3.73 rear gear. I was 15. Dam I loved that car. He wasn't a serious gearhead or anything and all he ever did was put a set of hookers on it and stuck a fireball cam in it and those old straight through thrush mufflers.  She rattled the old windows in the farm house. To this day everytime I hear someone kicking out the base rattling the trunk lids in there donk's I think how the best rattle of all comes from a big block FE ford. Dam I wanted that car..

FE Technical Forum / Re: CNC markings
« on: August 13, 2015, 09:35:29 PM »
Wow, I love this sight. You guys got a ton of passion and knowledge and I love it.
Thing is I in no way wanted anyone to think I wasn't happy with the heads because that is far from the truth. The valve pockets/bowls and the combustion chamber's look exceptionally nice and easy some of the best work I have seen. The heads I supplied him with were old 6005's and had been extensively hand ported twice before so I wasn't exspecting total perfect.  For what I gave him to work with and what I got back I'm totally satisfied.  I was only curious about the "few" CNC markings left in the runners and I'm going to take Jays advice and carefully smooth them out with 40/60 grit cartridge roll.
Thanks guys for all the vast knowledge. ..
