FE Technical Forum / 65 Galaxie cast iron headers
« on: March 20, 2013, 06:48:51 PM »
Just finished replacing Sanderson shorty headers with a set of original C5AE long iron headers on my 65 Galaxie and I love them........finally,   all the noise is coming out the back.
I'm running Cherry Bombs strait back without a crossover so there's plenty of noise....it's just not under my feet anymore.

Ive already received 4 compliments from strangers on it's sound, so I'm happy........I guess I'm not the only one who digs that blap blap idle and the pop pop popping on deceleration.

And best of all , according to Jays dyno tests, at my power  level, I sure I'm not giving up any power.....and maybe gaining a few.

The ride to the muffler shop uncorked was fun too...........clutch in while going past the courthouse/police station of course.

Signed,  Happy Camper.

FE Technical Forum / Will large valve heads fit 428 bore?
« on: October 03, 2012, 08:04:28 PM »
Will Medium Riser or High Riser Heads fit the 428 bore size?

I'm contemplating upgrading from iron Low Riser heads  to Medium Risers on my 427 stroker  (468in).

I was wondering if those same heads could also be used on  the two 428 based projects I'm working on?

Thanks.    M

FE Technical Forum / Stock Iron Adjustable Rocker Strength?
« on: September 21, 2012, 01:17:00 AM »
How much spring pressure will standard iron rocker arms using Precision Oil Pump end and center stands with DSC HD shafts withstand?

I got a wild hair late last night and purchased a set of Survivals hydraulic rollers for my 428 project....couldn't resist the sale price any longer.

Will probably be using a cam with around .600/650 lift .       Was planning to use a solid flat tappet till now , but now I'll have to upgrade the standard pieces I have.

I was using standard rockers on my 468s roller with no problems, but that cam is only 528 lift with 330 lb springs. Have since installed Dove rollers on the 468 as extra insurance.

So, just how much will Fords irons take?

FE Technical Forum / Stroking 428 CJ Crank
« on: September 18, 2012, 06:55:17 PM »
Ive been  piecing together a  428 to put in a 67 Mustang and have an iron 1UB CJ  crank that is at 10/10 under now.
I plan to have it internally balanced  and was wondering if at the same time ,it could be turned down to BBC journal size    AND   possibly offset ground to maybe 4.125 stroke?

FE Technical Forum / Low Riser Porting
« on: September 17, 2012, 02:05:13 PM »
Hey all, new here and this is my second attempt at my first question post.   I own a 65 427 4 speed Galaxie. The engine has all the right stuff, C8JE block,  4.25x4.125 Scat rotating assembly, Crane roller lifters, Dove rockers on Precision Oil supports, Smiths rods and buttoned up with 8qt. Canton pan.

My one weak point is my heads, which I plan to replace with aluminum's sometime in the future.
Until then I'm running C4AE-Gs  with 427 Low riser/CJ valves with a little pocket porting and valve relieving.

My question is how much can I gain by an aggressive porting job on iron Low Riser ports?

My idea was to have an engine builder friend do a port job on one of each port then finish the rest myself copying his work. I have extensive  experience with grinders from my manufacturing background, but have never applied it to head porting.

I have 3 sets of FE heads.....another set of C4AEs,  one of C6AE-Rs and a set of 58 Edsels with machined chambers that appear to have plenty of space for 2.15 int and 1.65 ex valves.

Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks,  Mark.
