Broke these starter teeth clean off. Is the problem related to too advanced initial timing and a really strong starter? Theres no wear on the teeth, just broken off. Hard to believe the starter could do that. Its a powermaster w reduction drive.

Is that a PRW flywheel ?
I have seen a couple of the SB ford wheels of that brand do the same thing. Brittle ring gear.

this is an iron flywheel from jegs. maybe too brittle?
-
Probably wrong heat treatment on the ring gear
If you see on the pictures they have broke of in
The zone between blue and gray. Have you checked
So the distributor dont hang upp on full advance after
You run it ?
The ringear is pressed on the flywheel so it dont matter
what material the flywheel is made out of

solved the problem i think. bought msd starter saver that retards initial timing during startup. teeth arent breaking off anymore.
