In the event I can't find where in the heck I stashed my original plates, what other vehicles have the same 390GT/428CJ motor plates beside Mustangs and Cougar's? ...........

I don't know if they are rare or not.

Of course I have a side-oiler and need to massage/trim one side FWIW

I'm not sure if those plates are used on any other vehicles besides Mustangs and Cougars.  Aftermarket replacements are available.

...............Funny I was thinking if "replacement's" are made and if they were, how much I'd trust Chinese stampings and bolts deep down ----

So your saying that a 427 Cougar GTE uses a special engine mount plate on the block. Also is your side oiler not infact a marine block that was drilled as a center oiler ??.Did they not swipe that side clean on the marine blocks for something ???
A Cougar 427 GTE has a side oiler in it..The mounts are non std FE mounts ???

The 1968 427 Cougar did in fact use a different motor mount plate on the drivers side because of the 427 sideoiler block ( or Ford modified them at the assembly plant, I don't know the answer to that ). I don't know how a marine 427 sideoiler casting - machined as a center oiler - looks, but because of the side oil passage a regular 427 sideoiler has, the lower front ( drivers side ) motor mount bolt hole is drilled slightly higher than a regular 4 bolt mount FE. A regular 390-428 Mustang / Cougar mount plate can be used by slotting the hole and trimming the mount plate a little with a grinder.

The original 390-428 motor mount plates are Ford part number C7ZZ-6046-A & C7ZZ-6046-B, and were available from Ford through at least the 90's I think, so you can probably find NOS if you search those numbers. Used ones turn up often too. And like Jay said, reproductions are available from Mustang parts places, here's a link:

https://www.npdlink.com/store/products/block_plates_engine_mount_c7zz_6046_a-105067-1.html

I'm guessing the reproductions everyone sells are all made by Scott Drake, you can even get them from Summit with free shipping:

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sdk-c7zz-6046-pr

I don't know where they are made, you'd have to ask. And yes, only used on 390-428 Mustangs & Cougars.

Here's a picture. The bottom of the slotted hole in the plate is where the regular FE bolt hole would be, the pictured tapped hole at the top of the slot is on a 427 sideoiler.

You guy's are terrific! Thank You especially thatdarncat for doing the web searching/links
Bothers me the reproduction mounts could sit differently and suddenly I have header clearance issues or clutch linkage issues etc..
I know, Murphy's Law, mine will show up the day after I get another set...

My Marine 427SO's are the real deal (nothing, nada, zilch center oiler at all)
I've only heard of one other pair of true side-oiler Chris Craft 427's like mine in somebody's hands.  Oddly I guess, I have never seen a sideoiler block drilled  as a center oiler.

I'll just keep looking for mine and keep in mind where I can get replacement.

Lots of side oilers drilled as center oilers....It apparently makes you feel good to know your engine is a side oiler....So congrats on putting a S/O boat engine in your car..
And like you always ask everyone......please provide pictures and details.....

The side oiler marine motor is more common than some people believe I too have seen several units here in my neck of the woods.

The nice thing is in the old Chris Crafts which were truly toys of the wealthy, they likely almost all came with closed loop cooling - not raw water which would have harmed the FEs.  Even run hard in a big Chris Craft 3,000-4,000 all day was just like running down the interstate so they didn't really get beat as car 427 did.

Mine had steel plugs in the lifter galley feeds and were factory run solid with nothing other than drip to lifters. I know they were steel - bitch to drill out. I threaded those plug points and will run mine as a hyd roller.
