Are you sure you want to try this at home?   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sn1m1egXY5I

Are you referring to one of the Ford aluminum intake manifolds or perhaps an aftermarket manifold?

I wouldn't use the stock-style adjustable rockers on anything other than a stock cam and springs.  If they are made in China, I wouldn't use them on anything, period.  I've broken too many (one) and learned my lesson!

Prayers for a full recovery.  What an icon in the Ford world of performance.  I talked to him on the phone many years ago (1988?) and he was very personable, knowledgeable, and helpful.  But everyone probably knows that already.....

I would contact the manufacturer and give them the model number, serial number, and any other identifying information and ask them.  I would also try to get them to send an owner's manual.

I personally would not run a tap down each hole without being able to flush and blow them out completely.  The threads are 3 - 4 inches down the clearance hole so it would be difficult to ensure that all the dirt was removed without removing the head.   I would not want to risk any chips or dirt being left behind or finding their way into other parts of the engine.  If I were to re-torque, I would simply set the torque wrench to the final torque setting and re-torque them in the proper sequence without removing any bolts.

And now they are 40 miles north of me!  Where were they previously?

I have not used their tubes but upon viewing them on line they look very close to the Crites 2”/3.5” ones I have in my 67. I had mine coated and had to dimple number 7 for the upper part of the steering box corner and to a lesser degree dimple number 8 for the tie rod end. The Crites material is soft. Not sure what those Mad Dogs are made of.

JB

I believe Mad Dog makes the headers for Crites.

I understand that many of the oil passages in blocks are rifled drilled, but I only worried about rifle pressure when working up hot hand loads for a rifle.

And that's a totally different type of C.U.P!

FE Technical Forum / Re: Valve covers
« on: September 21, 2019, 07:09:51 AM »
i've got the tall "Cobra LeMans" black finned aluminum valve covers.  They clear the Harland Sharp rockers and the power brake booster/master cylinder.  I don't have the end stands, however, so I don't know if they would interfere with my valve covers.  I tried my factory finned aluminum 428 valve covers and they did not clear the rockers.

If there is a "deep"pan on it, make sure it has a matching filter.  Not sure on C6 but we have those available for a C4.

Deep pans are available for the C-6.  I installed a TCI deep pan on mine and it came with a new filter, filter extension tube, and gasket.  A quick check on Summit Racing and it appears that all the deep C-6 pans come with the extension tube.

FE Technical Forum / Re: L-2291F Clearance?
« on: September 18, 2019, 02:50:27 PM »

Yes, the edge of the 428 CJ head combustion chamber will possibly interfere with those 427 pistons. I used 428 CJ heads on one of my 427’s with the L2299 pistons and modified the CJ chamber to make it work. The recommended heads were the 427 MR/HR/TP. Here’s the info from the TRW catalog.

Thanks, that is exactly what I was looking for.  I had the domes milled down and modified the chambers on my CJ heads, ended up with a little over 12:1.  I knew they recommended certain heads but couldn't recall if MR were included.  I'm thinking about a pair of Edelbrock heads CNC'd by Craft Performance.  Edelbrock advertises a MR chamber so they should work...

I still have a nice 1979 TRW Engine Parts catalog, I'll get some particulars on that L number tonight when I get time.
I was thinking last night about scanning a couple of pages of FE pistons and posting them, kinda help make this the "definitive FE TRW piston post".

Would one of you please post or send me the page showing the L2298 pistons (427 bore, 428 crank)?  I believe it should indicate which heads the pistons will work with.  I had to modify mine to get them to work with CJ heads....

I'm definitely going to see this movie as well as Ad Astra.  I heard the Ford family was not happy with the movie.  In one scene, Henry Ford II was taken for a ride in a GT-40 and it shows him crying in fear.......
