I found the numbers

The valve locks and retainer actually did their job quite well.

FE Technical Forum / Valve Spring Question
« on: May 07, 2024, 07:24:10 PM »
I'm trying to find either a Trickflow valve spring, p/n 51400413, or a readily available equivalent. It seems the Trickflow number may be obsolete. The corresponding retainer seems available, a 51400423, but not the spring.

My previously suspected rod knock now appears to be a broken spring and bent pushrod. I'm trying to source these numbers, which were in the paperwork from the previous owner/machine shop. The Trickflow spring 51400413 and Pioneer valve lock PF613HD are documented. The retainer p/n 51400423 I surmised from Trickflow documents found on the web that matched it to the fore-mentioned spring.

The cam is a Bullet 230 dur @ .050, lobe lift .3027 I and E, gross lift .524 I and E.

Any other p/n's would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping to source these locally so I can quickly confirm this was my problem, and not something requiring rebuilding the short block.

Thanks for the heads-up, but I could pretty much buy a whole car for that price https://knoxville.craigslist.org/cto/d/parrottsville-1969-ford-galaxie-500-low/7743504777.html

A nice car--has me considering selling my Supra.

I've got a mild 390, estimate around 400-450HP, that has developed what I believe to be a rod knock, though I'm still in the diagnosis phase (fairly certain, though--unfortunately). I'm debating whether to try to purchase a decent running engine, or just rebuild the short block.

There are so many variables to consider, but cost, time, and quality are at the top of the list. My Galaxie was built by the previous owner with GT heads, so the manifolds/exhaust are a limiting factor for purchasing an engine for direct installation. Of course there are different ways of dealing with this, but I've been hoping not to miss the driving season this year, but that may not be practical. Obviously, going through the short block will likely eat up the driving season (or more) given that there is only one machine shop in the region I'd trust, and he is always extremely busy (I'm not the only one who thinks he's very good at what he does). I'm testing the waters here, exploring any possible options.

I'm in the Bowling Green, Ohio area.

I had a smoking problem back when I purchased my car. I used Comp Cams p/n 514-16 on my stock heads, and they have worked well.

Diogenes,
It started as a factory built 427 car, but not a lightweight. Stories get told, owners change, facts fade.

I understand what you're saying.

Diogenes,
No 'factory' lightweights in 1965-66. Ford X garage built a 1965 Galaxie with glass nose but it was modified to run in B/FX, not S/S. This was The "Quiet One" sponsored by Bob Ford.

What of the story linked above? They claim one was made, and there seems to be some sort of documentation, not that I've been able to access it. It is a curiosity, and would've been interesting, though obviously Ford put their eggs in other smaller/lighter baskets.

1956 F100 Panel Truck. Yes, it is rough, but what a cool looking truck! It's a Craigslist ad from Cincinnati, so I'll attach a couple downloaded images in case the ad gets pulled. These are pretty scarce.

That 63.5 light weight was a steal.

Your comment had me wondering if there was such a thing as a 1965 or, preferrably, a 1966 Galaxie light weight (these are the Galaxies I prefer). Interestingly, a quick search yielded this:

...quite interesting.

Is this everybodys opinion of all automotive swap meets in recent years?

I think the internet and, more recently, the covid over-reaction has had quite a negative impact on many swap meets, but the Columbus meet was fading away prior to covid. It's been a while since I've been, but the swap meet at the Auburn, Indiana auction was always pretty good, as was the Carlisle All Ford show. My past experiences have been that most swap meets that are not Ford specific always seemed to be far too GM focused. Springfield, Ohio has had a large swap meet, but again, very GM centered and I'd come home empty-handed, so I stopped going. I guess it all depends on what you're looking to purchase.

While the Auburn events are not Ford specific, there always seemed to be a diverse collection there, as with the auction. Adding to the draw of Auburn are the museums there, the National Auto & Truck Museum is there along with the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum, which alone are reasons to go to Auburn.

I've given up on the swap meet, and I live a little less than 2 hours away. Once upon a time, it was a phenomenal swap meet.

It would be interesting to see the difference in power levels between a quiet muffler and existing headers set up, and then full flow mufflers with a "good" cast iron manifold. Just thinking out loud....

Oh for sure on the prices of grille pieces!  Is that the car Evan Smith has now?

I don't know who Evan Smith is, but if he has a car that looks like this, it is probably it--there isn't another like it. I sold it to someone up in Michigan, but I've heard it's down in Florida now.
