FE Technical Forum / Re: FE Motor Plate
« on: December 25, 2020, 05:45:08 PM »
My set up uses the water pump holes, but I use studs. Not sure if it makes it any stronger, but I made sure the part of the stud where the motor plate sits is full diameter, not threaded. I also have studs through the motor plates for the mount for the vacuum pump and the alternator that thread into the block and head on their respective sides.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / 26 vs 10 spline clutch
« on: December 22, 2020, 06:11:57 PM »
I’ve been looking at the specs for the new TKX transmission, and see that the Ford units are available in either 26 or 10 spline input shafts. I assume the 10 spline is a 1 3/8” shaft, same as in my big input Toploader. The TKX has more options for a 26 spline input. My question is which of the 2 input shafts is better in terms of strength or availability of clutch and bearings?

With the short Ford input shaft, is it available in both spline options? Which is stronger, 26 or 10 spline? Any other advantage of one over the other?

I’ve Mad Dog headers on my ‘63. They were very easy to deal with, even from where I live. Big difference compared to Crites.

I used the Hooker 6130 headers on my 1966 LTD, they didn’t have any ground clearance issues. One pipe that was closest to the power steering box needed a little clearance no, otherwise they were easy to fit.

I have a SOHC in my ‘63 Galaxie, it pretty much dropped straight in. I had a set of Mad Dog 2” primary headers on the 406 in the car, I just modified these headers to suit the SOHC exhaust ports. Only other big job was to fit a radiator fill neck and cap to the radiator, as I didn’t use the expansion tank. Otherwise, it fit like it was meant to be there.

I installed the engine with long cast headers attached into my ‘63 Galaxie, went in okay. I only used a sealant, no gaskets, and never had a leak problem.

Are you using an aftermarket aluminium radiator? I have a fitting near the inlet neck of my radiator that I use for the temperature switch for the electric fans. That could be an easier option than disturbing the intake manifold.

29 degrees total is all my iron headed, 10.3 to 1 SOHC engine will tolerate on our premium pump fuel, which is equivalent to 93 octane in the US.
