E brake interference on 66 Shelby/w Hurst shifter
« on: April 22, 2023, 12:46:26 PM »
I have an interference  problem  from the  E brake cable rubbing against  the Hurst shifter.  Has anyone  had a similar problem and how did you correct the contact?

Thank you for any suggestions.

Virtually all Fords of yore use the same set-up as depicted above. If you have all the proper parts, the cable should come nowhere near the shifter. If this diagram isn't clear enough, Google emergency brake cable diagram.

Were the floorboards ever replaced? Sometimes when new floor pans are installed the original "height" maybe slightly altered as well as the cable brackets that are spot welded to the bottom of the floor pan.

Would a 66 Shelby have a stock Ford shifter?

The Hurst can hang down lower than the stock Ford shifter
and the cable would drag across the shifter.
Depending on which mount you are using with the Hurst,
that can cause issues also.

Thank you folks.  I am going to weld in a fairlead to channel the cable clear  of the hurst shifter.  And yes it does hang down farther than  the stock shifter with major interference.
