Rocker Arm Dyno Test?
« on: December 24, 2014, 03:44:33 PM »
Hey Jay, Merry Christmas!

I was just curious.  Have you or anyone done dyno tests to see what the power difference is between the stock non-adjustable rockers, stock adjustable rockers, and aftermarket roller rockers?

Nope, I haven't, but that's something that I've thought about.  I have a friend who put a set of Erson rockers on his engine and lost a bunch of ET over the standard rockers.  Doesn't make sense to me, but its something I wouldn't mind investigating.  I'd figure that any power losses or gains would be the result of variation in ratio, rather than in reduced friction from, say a roller tip, or something like that...

OK.  I was just curious.  Please post results if you do a dyno test comparison in the future.  I'm sure others would be interested in the results also.

I have never tried different rockers the couple of that I have dynoed my 428 and 427/454, but when I first installed my Ersons, replacing my cast iron Iskys, the dragstrip ET and MPH numbers didn`t change at all. The main reason I went to the roller rockers was to make life a little easier on the valve guides, due to side loading of the valve with .650" lift. I really can`t see how going to the Ersons would actually STEAL HP over the iron rockers, unless he messed up adjusting the valve lash. Or if he used large enough rocker stand washers that they were binding on the rocker arm bodies.

Totally agree with you Rory! Thats why I run roller tip rockers myself. Makes it a little easier on the valve guides....
