Do they still use torque plates on the heads when seats are ground.

I believe Barry posted about doing valve job then bolting on torque plate
IIRC, the end valves did not seal then
I dont know any shop that uses torque plates to do a valve job but I am going to ask my machinist if he wants to experiment now

I was told back when Bob Glidden did work for people he would use plates on fe heads or the end valves would not seal.After he got in to pro stock he quit doing outside work.If this is true and four cyl leak a little it may be worth doing.

I can't see where it would be a bad idea, in fact, I think it's a good idea if the machine you use can work in the chamber that way but I also think once you you add heat and motion to what essentially is a tapered seal, my guess is they seat right in

I have to agree with Ross, here. If you put 500 lb on a big valve with a 11.32 stem or, smaller it shouldn't leak.
But, if the valve is fretting, more than others or failing, then it would be worth a try.

Used to do it all the time on iron heads destined for serious work.
If you don't, the end exhausts would leak air and the car would definitely slow down.
Still do it once in a while.
Blair might be a better reference for current iron head race practices.

Do you use a head gasket with the plate like the one you will use.Or is this over thinking this deal.
