'63 Merc with TKO500 (.68OD) and 4.10s with mild 390 does 15-16mpg highway.  Had a dead stock '66 LTD 2DR hardtop that got 19mpg doing 60-65mph, 17mpg doing 75mph.

It's not really too bad, my 2001 Lightning was lucky to pull 15mpg HWY, 10-11mpg in town.

I want to make a tank to put in the back of my '70 F350 that I pull my 28' trailer with. Something that I can tie into the main cab tank with a short line and valve and refill it as I'm going down the road. It'd actually save me money as well, because gas is always quite a bit cheaper near me than anywhere on the road.

I've thought about adding a tank to my F250 too.  I've considered adding a three way type of valve to the floor between the seat and the door.  Is there benefit to transferring fuel to the cab tank ?  Perhaps your fuel pump is inside your tank?

Most all the camper specials had tank valve next to the door you could switch between tanks plus a switch on the dash to switch sending units so you could see how much fuel you had in each tank.  Likely easier then transferring between tanks.

My 454 Chev powered motorhome ran consistent 7 mpg +/- 1.  It was fuel injected and had OD, but weighed 14,000lbs.  I wonder if putting an OD trans in the Cobra would be worth the trouble?

My situation is a bit different, it's a '70 dumptruck. I don't want to mess around with installing a 2nd tank under the truck with all the needed stuff to have the ability to switch feeds and read levels in each tank. A simple mounted tank in the dump bed could easily feed into my cab tank because it's above the cab tanks level. Gravity feed the cab tank with the push of a valve. A farmers refueling tank, safely mounted in the dump bed, would work nicely.

When people ask about the MPG of my 406 '58' Ranchero I kindly remind them that it's not Miles Per Gallon, it's the Smiles Per Gallon.  And that is why I have it  :) :) :) :) :) :)

A year ago I was fighting a rich condition on the idle and transition circuits on my 63.5 Galaxie and getting 10.5-11.0 MPG on a good day. Engine is a stroked 428 (462) with low riser 2 x 4, new 750 Quick Fuel carbs, 427 cast iron headers, Comp 280H cam, BW T-10 4 speed and 3.00 rear end.  I finally got the rich idle and transition circuits sorted out this spring, I will spare all the details of that fiasco on this post.  I just got back from about a 350 mile weekend trip through the bluff country of south east Minnesota and north east Iowa, mostly 2 lane state highways and about 70 miles of interstate.  I checked it very close and come up with 14.23 MPG, kind of conservative number as the odometer is just a little stingy.  I'm really pleased with the MPG and the way the car runs since the carbs got leaned out. Last hear the AFR was generally in the 11 to 12.0 range going down the road and even less than 11 at idle.  Now the AFR is 12-12.5 at idle and 13.7 t0 14.1 going down the road.

I used google earth and the same gas pump twice.  3.00 rear end gives you much lower cruise rpm I bet.  I'm at +/-3200 at +/-70 mph.  One quick punch and the car just JUMPS!  Pretty smooth though.  I'll have to watch my a/f ratio, right now I'm letting the EFI "learn" for a while.  I did need to crank up the accel pump in the computer though.

I got 25 miles per Imperial gallon in my 61 Meteor wagon. All original 332 - 2V, Cruis-O, 3.10 gear and 29" tall tires.

I hope that doesn't plummet with the 3-2V setup or something a hundred or more extra cubes will replace it.

That's really good Tom!  My Subaru wagon with a turbo four doesn't do much better than that!

According to the math, that's 20.8 mpg in U.S. terms. Very impressive, regardless, but especially for an old wagon!

I have a 3.3" crank in the shop. Now my bench building gears are turning.

The stock Holley 2v is tiny and top speed is maybe 90 or so. Zero to 60 is minutes rather than seconds and it's kinda ugly so it has to have at least one virtue.  One that I might have spoiled with two extra carbs... I will see soon enough.  ::)

4800lb empty 1965 F-250, 4:10 Dana, NP435, 352, Edelbrock SP2P-390 with D2TE heads got 13.3-5 mpg @ 80; 14.9-15.1 mpg @ 70; 16.3-7 mpg @ 60mph with a 68 Quadrajet. I put a 75 model with an aneroid assembly for the high evaluation trips. Now it get a steady 9.8-10.1 @ 80mph. Going back to the 4M till I find time to properly tune the M4MC.
