Non-FE Discussion Forum / Re: O/T rant its cold and we can't race.
« on: January 11, 2015, 06:08:23 PM »
Ya know Jay I know you don't care for the fox body but we have to remember that that chassi saved Ford drag racing in my opinion. A mutual friend of ours was lamenting one day about all the fox chassis mustangs that he was seeing the rare times he went to the drag strip. I tried to straighten him out telling him that the times I went to the strip if it wasn't for the fox mustang at the races you could count on one hand the number of Fords that were there. We all know the (shock tower) dilemma that all the ford guys had to put up with. I used to see Fords out there without headers and I would ask them "where are your headers". All I could ever get was lots of excuses mainly that they either didn't fit or too hard to install. Of course that kept them in the 14 to 15 second category. Getting their butts stomped and sometimes really hammered because they were so stinking slow.
How many guys from years back can you remember that wouldn't put in a 351 in place of a 289 because of the header issue. As a while back there was none available. I'm talking quite a few years by the way. So guess what 350's with more torque would come out of the hole faster than a 289. I used to watch it happen as some 289's were fairly fast. Displacement makes torque you know that probably more than anyone else.
Oh by the way I have good friends that drive brand X cars. These guys on "drag week" have you ever asked them why they
put the damn things in their Fox or sn95 or even newer chassi and get any kind of a intelligent answer?

Fox body and other Fords with GM junk in them
I am ranting today as it is real cold and I just ain't going out other than to get my mail and paper. And you guys tell me the reason all these and I will be nice and say "people" are putting the brand X engines in the fox body. As for the BBF is it price or availability or what? I have here right in front of me a recent add in national dragster by Shafiroff racing engines advertising their 632 sportsman engine for 16,250.00 . They are claiming 1030hp on that one. Their pro series are advertised at 24,750.00 and claiming 1225 hp. They all have aftermarket heads and blocks and cranks and everything else. Whats the reason I am looking for some honest shit. The SBF seems to be pretty darn competitive when some person will build it the same way they build the brand X small puke stuff. As I have yet to see an SBC that makes decent power using a 2 bolt 283 thing out of the 60's but I have seen these idiots build up a SBF ford using as factory 302 which we know is no stronger than an early 289 and then break it and then some builder says to them you have to put a sbc puke motor in it to go fast and stay together. Then he will build them a Dart block brodix headed thing and of course it will be faster last longer to be expected. Its my opinion and I think most might agree that a BBF junk yard block that can be purchased for usually 100.00 or so complete will withstand 700 plus and an early one which has been converted to 4 bolt mains should be good for at least 850 hp. We won't go into the ls stuff but we do know that the block is good for quite a lot of hp but it should be as it is a reasonably new design. Just like the Ford modular 3 valve and 4 valve can be put together and make good hp. How about some of you engine builders chime in here. Just for the record I bought parts from a lot of the vendors on this site and my pump gas 545 made 702 hp and has been dam reliable only problem has been losing a roller lifter and I blame that on some VERY VERY slow driving at the "Back to the Fifties" car show in St Paul over a couple of days. I can't even recognize some of the engines I see like the I think it is called a "481X" I asked a guy what it was and he said a ford/chev/dodge as they used the best features all the brands and built it from scratch. I watch the show "Street Outlaws" and I know it is mostly TV but enjoy watching it anyway. Now I see the one guy that runs a Dodge has a BBC in it so I won't pull for him anymore in fact I hope he loses his ranking. So I am suppose to believe that nobody can build a hemi or even a big wedge than can compete as they all use nitrous. As you can see I am RANTING today to keep from being pissed off about this below zero crap we are putting up with. Hey I am 74 years old and have good blood pressure and want to keep it that way LOL. Lets hear some reasons and my 63 Fairlane has went 10.20 at 133 and I still drive it and it is street legal with 92 octane. I posted this today on a different BBF forum that's why there are no mentions of FE fords but I have had a couple of them too. I know there was one in a Fox at Brainerd last summer but I only seen it there once. Hey we can't race for quite a while at least us northern guys so lets at least do some bashing and bench racing. >:(

FE Technical Forum / Re: Why aren't more people building SOHCs?
« on: September 22, 2014, 11:31:20 PM »
I have to add my opinion and you know what it will be. COST and bottom line. Kasse P51 heads are 845.00 dollars apiece bare. The block for a 385 is usually about a 100.00 or a little more. A complete stroker kit is going to be less that 2000.00. Start figuring it out. The rest of the stuff to complete the engine is going to be roughly the same price as a brand X big block. A pump gas engine will easily make 750 plus hp with not any drama. The stock block will handle somewhere over 800hp too. I really just bolted my 545 together without any specialized parts and it made slightly over 700 hp and 700 ft lbs of torque. well over 300 dragstrip passes with minimal problems and it crosses the finish line at 6700 every pass. Mine has the Ford cobra jet second gen aluminum heads not the P51's which are even better. :) I know the "bling" effect is not there but affordability is very real to compete with the brand X junk.

Well Jay now you have just went and spoiled my week as I really looked forward to your updates. Seriously I feel sorry for you guys that put so much effort into getting the car ready. I guess it comes under the s$$t happens heading. I had a clunk in my Maverick after a second pass at Cedar falls this summer. Decided maybe I better not run it again as the clunk would go away when you revved it. Pushed it back into my trailer and took it home. Good thing too as the flex plate to crankshaft bolts were loose. I did the right thing as the holes were not elongated in the flex plate and the bolts were not damaged. Only loss was some trans oil and some work. It sure looks like you have a strange problem. :(

The Road to Drag Week 2014 / Re: The Road to Drag Week 2014 - August 17

Ahh HA   I thought I recognized that dragstrip.. The country's most expensive test and tune, and legendary lack of traction. Oh  I almost forgot the  hostile, and unwelcoming ownership and tech inspectors.......   You pretty well hit the nail on the head there Royce.  But I have had a few good experiences there.

Thank you Jay and Fastback427 thats what I needed to know. I don't know if adding the required bars to the present bars would make it certifyable or not but suppose I would have to take it to a shop in our area with that experience.

I was wondering if a swing out door bar is legal when you have your chassis certified for nines. The reason I ask is my car is very close to the nine second zone and it is a bit hard to get into the way the bar is situated. I am thinking about updating it for the possibility of making go a bit faster and not having to lift. :)

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Homeland The TV show
« on: December 16, 2013, 05:16:28 PM »
Are any members here on this forum followers of the showtime TV show "Homeland" ? I watched the supposed final last night and one of the main characters was killed off. Do any of you folks know if this is the end of the series or is it going to be back next year with one of the main characters gone. Hey this is the non car subjects so just asking as this is one of my favorite shows. :(

We're not talking Mustang 11's here we're talking Fox chassi and the sn 95's which are very easy to swap in darn near any good ford power plant. There are some things that are just not right. If you would show up at a drag strip with a 67 camaro with a BBF in it you would have guys actually very angry at you. You might even get your car keyed. Yet they think it is very proper to put damn near anything they want in the fox chassi and the newer ones. I had my fill of that stuff with the street rod guys that a SBF would not fit then. I would go to a show and there would be older fords with BBC, Hemi's and damn near anything else. I would bring that up to a good friend of mine and he would just shrug his shoulders and laugh. Yes I am still pissed and ain't planning on getting over it. >:(

Come to think about it I also had a 77 Mustang Ghia with an automatic and it was so slow that it was almost dangerous to drive. My opinion of the mustang 11 is the only thing good about them is the front suspension. After that its all downhill. :(

How about an SN95 with a high riser Jay? I myself love the look of a 79 thru 93 coupe with just the right stance. And you can get them down below 3000 lbs quite easy. :) The fuel injected cammer would really fly with that in it and be VERY original that's for sure.

I know that Joe as I have met Ted and he is a real thinker and a nice guy by the way. I did miss quote in my rant as the 1400.00 price i mentioned are for a pair not apiece. Maybe yhey are more now but the Cobrajet second design that I have on my car (Kasse design) were around 1400.00 bare bought from a BBF forum vendor.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Just got the new Hot Rod today and am I pissed
« on: November 09, 2013, 06:07:45 PM »
What is wrong with these knuckleheads with putting there goofy brand X motors in damn near every ford product you can think of. Don't they know anybody that knows how to build a ford engine in there areas? And don't give me any of that shit that they are so cheap to build compared to a ford either as most of the ones I saw were VERY high buck engines. I have said this before the cheapest to build up to 450 hp is the bbf 385 series. After that to 750 it is probably the bbc but not by much, after that it is a wash. 1200 or so hp is going to cost 20,000.00 or so regardless of what you build or have built for you. A coyote crate engine is 420 hp as it comes from ford and is very accepting for a blower as it comes from ford for up to 1000hp they say. The small block ford blocks are very close to the same cost as the brand X when you get to the Dart ones and the others. And heads are a wash too. I am so damn pissed tonight I can hardly think. Am I missing something here ? Come on guys tell me. Jay's Galaxy as heavy as it is went very well and won. And we know that was with a cammer which is a rare and I might add expensive engine, but it went like crazy in that heavy aerodynamic Galaxy. Am I remembering right that it made about 900 hp? That ain't too hard to do with a 385 series engine for less than 15,000.00. And that's with the same type cylinder as the stockers. Think Kasse P 51's. They are about 1400.00 apiece bare then the valves are the same price as the brand  X stuff. You know what I am getting at.

Hi Royce it is powered by a 366 cid pump gas sbf for now. I have a couple of things to do to it and then will take it out racing and see if I like that. At least for this year I plan on leaving the sbf in it. I have never had a light weight car to play with so this might be interesting. I do have a 466 if I decide to put that in it for next year. How did you do at Expo?
