Title: Intake gaskets
Post by: sixty9cobra on December 06, 2023, 05:14:31 PM
I have been using a bit of oil this year mild driving not beating it too hard. I have a TKO600 so I'm not revving past 2500 cruising. The motor does run hot 200 210deg I have to admit, and I will be addressing that very soon. I've discussed the radiators and fans with Jay and Stangman. I hope its the intake gaskets the car runs good has a .700 lift roller cam about 620 hp flywheel. I noticed blue smoke during high vacuum conditions and the plugs look fine last time I changed them. Tailpipes are wet and oily which concerns me. My question is when I pull it apart what's the best intake gaskets for Barrys Proport heads? I bought some red rubber gaskets from Barry Yrs. ago but they are no longer available.

I'm a fan of the cometic gaskets (https://www.cometic.com/applications/automotive/ford/fe-big-block-v8/428--428ci70l-v8).  Varying thicknesses available as well.

Looks like my oil burning situation is caused by printo leaks number four intake gasket is sucked in. I looked down the intake with a bore scope. Spark plugs show no oil yet the exhaust system is coated like an oil burner.  Thank you for sending the gaskets Barry R. I will be ordering a couple of sets and paying you for the one that you sent.

Harry, how does the back side of number four intake valve look compared to the others? La Brea like?

Get stocked on utility blades for your gasket making class.

Backside looks ok front side is sucked in I can see the blue stripe about a half inch into the port. No sign of oil I guess it gets washed out or distributed everywhere when there’s high vacuum. I will pull the intake this week.exhaust is totally wet and back panel  of car has wet spots of oil.
