Title: Low mount alt on 428?
Post by: fescj428 on April 20, 2017, 08:13:54 PM
I know this question has been beat up over the years on many forums, but I am about to break in and install my 428 in the Mustang and would like to visit it one last time. I currently have my alt mounted high with the C8 brackets, and it's ok, but like so many others, I prefer the low mount position. Is there a way that I can use the C8 or C5 ( I have both ) pivot and whatever adjuster bracket and make this work? I'd prefer not to use the thermac style pivot because of the open hole that will remain. I don't have a bunch of extra brackets, and I've never tried mixing or matching anything. Any thoughts, or should I just talk with the folks at C.R.A.P.? Thanks for any help! Brian N

I've made that work with the stock triangular bracket and a chromed aftermarket Trans-dapt bracket for a small block Chev.  The aftermarket bracket has to be modified somewhat, and I think I had to use several washers as a spacer between the slotted part of the bracket and the alternator, but it worked fine.

My stuff has mostly been homemade stuff. Cut/paste anything to make it work.  The slide bracket is always customized.

I think I'll start by mixing and matching the few adjusters that I have, and fall back on Jay's plan for the Trans dapt Chevy adjuster if all else fails. I do appreciate the responses! Brian N
