FE Technical Forum / Sun distributor testers
« on: September 23, 2019, 12:39:05 PM »
I recently picked up a few more Sun distributor testers, in addition to my 504, I now have an SDT, MDT-50, and a 600. All have cabinets, and two in particular look quite nice. I will probably keep the 504 as it will do electronic distributors, and maybe one more and sell the rest. Haven't checked them out yet, but know how to work on them and get parts. When I know more, I will offer them. They make excellent garage art, but even better when they work

FE Technical Forum / Harland Sharps
« on: August 17, 2019, 01:19:37 PM »
First hand, hands on experience only please.  I want to get my 454 going for now without drilling the galleries just yet for T&Ds, and I know the Dove HDs that I have aren't highly thought of for over .700 lift. I do have a set of Harland Sharps that have a basic setup on, just spacers and steel stands. What are the limits on the HS rockers, say with HD shafts, spacers and end stands? Haven't pulled them apart but guessing bushed rockers. I have a .725 that was spec'd for a 454 similar to mine, and a .760 with easy profile that peaked in a 505 at 6300, and a .785 that's a little nastier. I've never heard of a breakage problem with the HS rockers? I've thought of maybe putting the HS rockers into the Dove HD stand setup with the big end stands, if it will fit up, seems the problem with the Doves was just rockers themselves breaking? I picked up a couple more toys, a 56 Bird with a drop axle and fenderwell headers, and a 65 Caliente for A/FX style. The Bird was running with a 427 until recently, and I'd like to get something respectable in it to keep the old ladies up on the sidewalk. Thanks for your help

After much searching, and missing a 504 for $500 by a half hour a few weeks ago, passing on a nice 680 and a refurbished MDT last week, found this 504, complete with an original Sun Pulse Amplifier for doing electronic distributors, and the original cabinet, right around the corner. Lotsa dust from sitting in a container, but everything works (needs a cover on one guage). Quite happy right now!

Runs and currently registered, clean title in my name, original CA black plates. Centerlines go with it for this price. Has original 200-6 and treeonnatree. $5500

Just followed me home- my old Cobra buddies from the 70's bought it for the correct for a gennie Cobra 427 that was in it, and I got the rest. Too easy, I even have the same type toploader that was in it. Straight axle, fenderwell headers and a 9"- and the left the 8K Dixco tach and 66 Corvette steering wheel in it- serious Cobra boys lol. Possibilities...

I haven't used any juice flat tappets in a long time, but need a set for a budget 428 for my Highboy. Already have a new 268H, and a take-off set of springs from Ebock heads. Looking at the Crower Camsavers, but probably not necessary. Anybody use the Summit house-brand lifters? Regular Crowers or Lunatis maybe...

These are the HD, wide body, fasten to the end head bolt setups. Selling to fund T&Ds, as I have several set of heads that are already cut for them

One set is unused, was mocked up on an engine but never run. $950, including shipping to the lower 48

Second set is a takeoff I got from Barry, $800, same deal on included shipping

Interesting trades always considered

FE Technical Forum / T&D or Dove HD rockers for BBMs?
« on: January 07, 2017, 05:19:04 PM »
Looking at options, and haven't seen much info on using T&Ds on BBM heads. Quandary is I already have two sets of Dove HDs, one new set and the other good used, which would eliminate the need to cut the heads. The BBMs look like they have almost but not quite enough, extra meat to install inserts for T&Ds without cutting the head, which would make the decision a lot easier, but if they would fit, would take a fair amount of work to accomplish- too bad BBM did not include this like BT did? Anyone run the Dove HDs with .800 lift SR with good results? What is actually needed to run T&Ds on the BBMs?
