Years ago, I chose a 3.50 for a daily gear in my 427-powered cars. With a 4 speed, facing a challenge on the street here in Metro Detroit usually meant a roll, and I had usable space at the top of first when my next-lane opponent was fighting the bottom of second.
On more than one occasion on the highway, I could nudge the other guy up to about 100 and then shift back into third gear. On the highway, 3k in fourth was about 70 so it was livable. Got 11.7 trip mileage on a jaunt to Sebring from Metro Detroit---for the 12 Hour Race---Best single tank was 16. But we were also running over 100 for an hour at a time on sections of US 75 that were finished.
I simply switched to the factory-supplied 4.11 to go to Detroit or Milan.
