Drag Springs advice
« on: April 15, 2023, 09:23:10 AM »
Any drag racers with a Fairlane, Comet, Ranchero, Mustang, etc. What are you using for front coil springs? I need to get another set of shocks for the front and am debating on swapping a set of springs while I'm at it. I currently have stock replacement big block springs trimmed a little for ride height. Would a small block spring be better?

That's what I used on my Mach 1 when I started converting it to some strip duty. I believe most guys use stock small block springs. Big block springs are fine for road driving, if not a bit stiff, but they don't work well on the strip. Just make sure you have good shocks or it'll be bouncy.

Might consider scaling car, front vs rear, ( if you have not already done so), and tailor your shopping based on what you learn.

Scaling, yes. Check suppliers for spring rates close to or equal to small block OEM springs.  Install, let settle a lot best to drive it around, recheck. One never wants to have a too stiff spring (although they could be returned). Worse is cutting a ring off and the car now sits too low.

We used stock "original from 67 Fairlane BB springs", Cal Tracs in the rear.
It's the shocks that made the difference for us.
Roller Perch's and QA1 shocks worked.

Moros Trick #47160 + CE Drag Shocks set for 90/10.  On my second set of springs in 18 years of racing LOL.  Those work same with a 302 or an iron head 351C.  Ride height good, reaction is good.
