Private Classifieds / Re: WTB - 9" posi 3rd member

Thanks guys.  I called Peyton but couldn't get em on the phone, will keep trying.

I'm in Seattle but don't figure I'll find what I want locally.  I'm pretty sure I'll be paying shipping no matter what.  I also see some units on ebay that'm considering, but those are unknowns to me.

Does anyone have a 9" 3rd member they'd be willing to part with? I'm trying to source a posi unit for the Galaxie, would consider anything from 3.00 to 4.11 just to get me on the road for now. I haven't ordered my axles yet so I can do either 28 or 31 spline.

Well my 427/520 is still in-work, so I cut/powdercoated/lit another sign for the shop.  This one is a little over 5' wide.

I heard from him about a week ago, still kicking.

Love the sign 8)

Hey if a customer pays for it, I'll find a way to PC it.   ;D

I didn't even know Cnc Plasma powder coating was a thing.

Well, those are definitely two separate operations.  Plasma cut then powder coat.  :)

The one I made for myself is 48", but I don't have a good pic of that one yet.  The one pictured is a 30" sign that I made for a buddy.  I built a powder coat oven that you could fit like 8 dead hookers in, but unfortunately my plasma table only has a 4x4 envelope so that's as big as I could go.

It likely won't be until late spring or early summer when my 427/520 will be ready to install in the 63 Galaxie, so I've taken up some other projects in the garage while I wait.  Idles hands and what not, right?  I dabble in CNC plasma and powder coating, so I made myself a large 427 sign.  I feel like a bit of a poser hanging it in my shop while a 352 resides under the Galaxie hood, but that'll be rectified soon enough.  It'll keep the neighbors guessing, anyway.  :)

Thanks, Bruce.  I'm thinking a Dynamic C6 is what I'll go with, but I have some time yet to decide.

Hey guys, I joined a few months ago but never actually introduced myself.  My name is Chris and I hail from the PNW.  The only FE powered vehicle I own is a 63 Galaxie boxtop which I just picked up a few months back from the 2nd owner.  It's almost completely original but will soon have some of Blair Patrick's 520ci goodness under the hood.

I've always been a Ford guy but never really owned anything other than fox body mustangs or later model Cobras.  This seems like a great place to hang out and I'm learning a lot from you guys.

I grew up in Arizona and can attest to how intense those dust storms can be.  Funny how those are the kinds of things you miss after leaving the area.

On a related note...monsoons.  If you've never seen an Arizona monsoon, they are quite impressive.

My brother and I both lived in Mesa for several years while working at the Boeing plant there.  We also had a pair of Yamaha R1s (crotch rockets).  A couple times a week after work we'd ride from Mesa out to Canyon Lake along State Route 88 which was a good 30-40 minute ride, the latter half of which was full of some great twisties.  This was particularly fun during the monsoon season because on the way out we'd be riding straight for these ominous clouds that were building and the sky would turn this intense dark grey, and then just as the downpour started we'd try to beat it back to the house.  I can still smell that rain hitting the hot pavement.

Good times.

I called a week or two ago to inquire about my block, and they did say they were just starting to machine them.

Jay, I'm just now realizing that the Blue Thunder valve covers I was planning to buy for my new build are not readily available.  Can you add me to your list?  I'd even take a blem set as I'll be powder coating them.

Chris

That Fairlane is gorgeous and it sounds like it is coming together nicely.  Congrats to you Blair and Vernon.

I'd punch a puppy right in his dumb little face for a chance to make a pass in that car.

I think you'd have to fabricate a minitub, but for what its worth with the leaf springs moved inboard as shown in my earlier pictures, I was able to fit a 29.5/10.5-15 Hoosier slick in the factory wheelwells.  The car ran 9.50s with that setup.

Thanks Jay, appreciate the info.  Since I have to start somewhere, I'll probably order some 295/55-15 ET Streets (or perhaps the taller 295/65-15) and see if I can stuff them in there with the current backspacing on my 15x8 Cragars...and then go with a different backspacing if required.  Your Hoosiers have a 13.0" section width whereas the ET Streets I'm looking at are only 11.9" and 12.0."  If I do have to move the leaf spring in, I will probably try and talk you into taking a better pic of how you did the forward attach point as that's hard to see in the pics you posted.   Then if this isn't enough traction I'll entertain more drastic measures.

Thanks for the input, guys.
