427 pistons
« on: June 23, 2023, 12:49:44 PM »
In the process of putting a 427 together.  Trick flow heads, factory side boiler block, factory steel crank and Molnar rods. Trying too keep compression under 11-1. From my searches, JE is the only one who lists a dished piston for this application and at $1300 for pistons and rings I'm wondering if there are any other options?

Any of the piston manufacturing people will make what you want, you just have to tell them what you want
Size, dome or dish, how big, pin size and length ring package that you want to run etc.

If you're truly going with a 4.250" bore (4.233 stock + 0.017 over), you should be able to find multiple manufacturers. I think Icon makes some off the shelfers around there. I can't make a comment on comparing quality.

I went with custom Diamond pistons in my setup.

I think - personally - that we're moving to a "custom piston" world.  There will be some off the shelf items I imagine.  but in the old days where we bought what was offered and honed the bore to fit, now you just call with the bore and either the wall clearance desired or let the mfg specify, and 8 pieces of hardware show up with a size tolerance easily +/- .0002 or so.

Yep, I ordered the Icon pistons the other day. The -16.3 cc dish should put me right where I want to be compression ratio. Unfortunately they are still 2 months backordered.
