Private Classifieds / 63 R code for sale
« on: October 01, 2023, 11:23:57 AM »
Hemmings.com has a 63 R code with 427, 4 speed, 411 detroit locker for sale in their web page.
Not a bad looking car the owner said was never wrecked and has no rust.
He does not state that the engine came with the car or not all though the vin is an R code.
Highest bid so far is $36,000 but he is asking $66,000.
The only thing I don't like about the car is the dummy spotlights. If you remove them you would have to repair the holes drilled to mount them.

One of my early heroes. I followed from the Malco gasser days.
Saw him at several of the tracks in the 60's and 70's but never got to meet him as we were racing to and I didn't have the time to wait in the long lines of people.
If i remember right all the top gasser car's in that time period came f4om Ohio.

FE Technical Forum / Re: locar shifter
« on: August 23, 2023, 01:26:43 PM »
Received the shifter this morning and decided to see how much work it was going to be to install.
It looks like the only thing I will have to do is make a mounting plate for it.
It fits the 63 console like it was made for it. The dimensions are almost the same as the stock shifter.
The shifter arm is small enough to fin though the stock shifter plate.
The only thing I am not real happy with is the shifter knob and will try to figure out how to use the 63 knob on it if I can.

I think since mine will just be a more or less a once in a while driver I will just put it in drive and go.
I might have to figure out where to mount the quick 6 where it is visible.
I think I could build an enclosure  to mount on the top front of the console but will have to wait and see what happens when I get it or mount it in the ash tray.

Thanks
Pictures are a big help.
I like where you put your quick 6 controller, I was going to mount mine in the console glove  box.
I think the shifter is going to be a little high by the picture so was thinking I would build a spacer below the console mounting points to raise it up a little and cover the spacer with carpet.
I really hate to lose the factory shifter handle but don't see any around it. I am trying to keep the interior as stock as possible.
I will hook up the trans brake for the 5 or 6 times it will see the track a year.
Thanks again.

I ordered the electronic sport shifter.
I will not be using any paddle shifter if it has it.
I was going to use the stock auto shifter that came with the console but wasn't sure if I could recut the detents correctly.
If it won't work in the 63 I can always use it on one of my other cars.

I just ordered a locar electronic shifter to go behind my 6r80 I am installing in my 63 Galaxie.
I am going to use the stock console and was wondering if anyone has done this install before and if you have any tips.
Thanks

Well, I finally got off my lazy rear yesterday and measured my rear end in my 63 Galaxie. It came out at 56 1/2 inch's inside flange to same.
I think that is a little narrow compared to what other's are reporting but I have a lot of room for big tire's.

590's would be a problem. I guess I will have to settle for some 390's lol.

Found 2 64 galaxies in a field yesterday. Both were 390 car's and looked to be in good shape from the road.
I got a hold of the owner today and he said I could come and look at them tomorrow.
One of them was his fathers car he bought new and he had plans to restore it but doesn't have the time or the energy to do it now.
He said he would make me a great deal if I promised to fix it up.
I told him no problem and when finished he could take it for a cruise.
Guess if I can buy them I will need to start looking for a couple 590's and trannys as both car's are missing them.

North west classic cougars has a rebuilding service for them and sells rebuild ones. I have ordered several things from them and the quality is top notch.

I am kind of scared of them. I have solar and while looking at what kind of battery's to buy looked at them.
The problem I found is they can self combust on their own for no reason.
I decided to go with the agm battery even though they are not as efficient. Do a search on the web about battery fires and you will see what I mean.
I would not carry one in my car or have one in my shop unless I was looking to file an insurance claim.

If you have one let me know the price. I could weld one up but am trying to save a little time.
I am going to a lodge meeting tonight so more then likely won't get back to you until the morning.
Will be shipped to 73541 zip code.
Thanks
