Test driving the new 2017 Fusion Sport model tomorrow...

Well the time has come for an upgrade to the '09 Fusion. I was flipping through different car options and ran across the 2017 Fusion Sport with 325hp and 380 ft-lb torque.  That would be just over twice the hp I have in my current model.  I'm real interested to see what 325hp feels like in an all wheel drive variant.  I'll let you know how fun it is

All smiles here.  My current car, a '09 Fusion with 211,000 miles on it has been a great car.  But going from a 160hp car to a 325hp car, in the same weight class is such a joy.  I was able to drive the new Sport for about 30 minutes today.  I went back and forth between sport mode and regular mode, and was rewarded in smiles during every stop light departure.  I really liked the suspension tracking that smooths out pot-holes and rough roads. The interior is quite nice and comfortable, although the front A-pillars are intrusive thanks to the air-bags.    Plenty of room in the back seat ( ) and the trunk is about the same size. 

If I can shake an X-plan PIN loose from somebody I think I'll have a new car this week.  I hate letting go of the old Fusion, but hopefully it'll be a good car to somebody down the road.  After putting over 1k in rebuilding the front suspension it has life left in it.

My parents have a 2014 Hybrid. They love the car. Honestly, I'd look for a used or outgoing 2016 Fusion. You'll save money. I had a chance to buy a used 2013 Hybrid and decided to buy a '14 Mustang GT instead.

What's the engine configuration on the Fusion?  Turbo 4 cylinder, maybe a 1.8 liter?  Or is it the V6?

In the sport, its the 2.7L turbo V-6, normally found in the F-150.

I had a chance to buy a used 2013 Hybrid and decided to buy a '14 Mustang GT instead.

That's funny, because I did the same thing. We used '08 & '09 Fusions at work and I can honestly say that they were/are some of the most reliable trouble-free cars I've ever came across. So with that in mind I went out to look for and buy a used one in 2010. I ended up coming back with an '09 GT. Found a deal I just couldn't pass up....a used one with 3000 miles and 6 year extended warranty at almost half the price of a new one. I ended buying a '95 Ranger for a work beater.

My wife has a 2014 Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid and we love it.  We got a good deal on it last year when the Saudis decided to stop propping up the price of oil and every started buying big SUV's again    Besides the fuel economy, the big lure was the carpool lane sticker for her 26-mile commute.

Nice car!  It drives really tight and has good comfort / amenities.

Well, I can see why its rather zippy    The turbo V-6 hauls my pickup around very respectably; I'll bet that engine is a riot in the Fusion...

It is impressive how far their engines have gone.  In my '67 Cyclone, the factory 390 was rated at 320hp .  The '17 Fusion with just 165 cu inches, a mere 50 years later, is doing the same, or more HP.  Thanks to Rod over on the other site, I'm picking it up tomorrow thanks to a trouble-free X-plan PIN.  Photos to come!

I should have added that I'm still sold on the Fusion as a highly reliable and well made car. So much so that I just purchased a used 2013 Fusion for my wife. It had 30k miles (the car, not my wife), so I know it's good for at least another 150k+. Only thing I don't like about the newer ones is that the electronics have increased immensely, and I'm not a fan of that. The older ones were very basic in comparison, so were very trouble free.

Well the purchase has been made, the deal is done.  After 211k the old guard has been retired off, and hopefully will go to someone who needs a good priced high mileage car that'll last a little while longer.  Almost got a speeding ticket coming home tonight, and its less than 10 miles from the dealership.  This is a fun car!  Thanks to Rod on the other forum in getting a better deal.

Deep Impact Blue is a very pretty color. You'll love the new Fusion, they are very attractive sedans. I know if I'm ever looking for a 4 door sedan in the $15-25k price range, I'll look at Fusions first.

Be careful about curbs with the new Fusion, they ride lower and you'll wreck your front bumper easily. Treat the Fusion like you're driving a 370Z when it comes to parking. Pulling the newer Fusions all the way up in a parking space will often result in a bone jarring scrape. Just to be safe, I'd recommend putting a clear bra on the lower part of the bumper if she is brand new. Or better yet, have Ceramic Pro applied to the car. You'll never have to worry about door dings or scrapes.

The '09 had the same issue pulling forward all the way in - it would scrape the chin and make a 'wonderful' sound.
