cam specs from the early days

i remember back in the 70s when i first got interested in the fe and hotrodding in general. i bought a isky cam that came with rockers and solid lifters.they called it a 3/4 race cam,or a 1/4 race cam or even a full race cam.i dont remember anything about the specs other than,1/4,3/4 etc. do any of you remember this or was i just ignorant about the specs back then

That terminology carried over to the later hotrods and meant full race, 3/4 race, 1/4 was .25 lift, etc. A full race was 0.4 lift usually. That small lift is why the "relieved" the heads and block to try to make more room for the air to flow in and out.

But the original terms cam from flathead days.
