Little bit of an odd reaction from T&D sales
« on: July 24, 2015, 06:13:35 PM »
Check this out.
I wrote T&D sales an email asking for a pn and price. The reply kinda wierded me out. Am I wrong?
My email subject was, "BBM heads for Ford". Sheldon is the sales dude.

Hi Guys
Just a preliminary question.
Have a set of BBM heads for my 428.
Drag car, 650ish hp, spinning to 6800ish.
Car is under construction.
Which pn do you suggest?
And can you give me a price?
Thank you
Marc

WHAT HEAD ARE YOU USING ?                 ( Why is he yelling?)

Read the second line again, BBM :-)

BBM typically stands for Big Block Mopar. I have never heard of a BBM Ford
head before now. Since it's a head that we have never had I would been a
head to design a set for itr

AAh
That's kinda why I was asking since I didn't see them in the catalog.
BBM is Bear Block Motors.
They've been around for about two years now.
http://bearblockmotors.com
It's been a pretty big deal in the FE world.
I guess no one's into FEs up there? :-)

No answer after that. Hey I used happy faces.
I know a lot of you guys have worked with them before and have been very happy.
I'm just surprised that they don't know what's going on.

There are literally dozens of head released every year now for all the various engines being used.  The guys at T&D can get me "spun out" from time to time, but its really not their fault on this one.  Pretty much no way for them to keep track of everybody's stuff.  Just order for an Edelbrock since the mounting architecture is similar and things will go smoother without the added drama.  You can shim them as needed to get things exact.

Thanks Barry
I figured the Ed set up would work but I would've loved some comment from them.
Also understand about lots of stuff coming out. But again would've dug a little info instead of what I got.

Thanks again Barry.

It would have been helpful if you were more specific. Think of all the combinations that are available today. Your email  described your motor as a 428. How are they supposed to know if you meant a Pontac, a Ford, or some stroker 383  Mopar? BBM is a much more common abbreviation for Big block mopar than anything else.

You should have wrote:

Edit:I now see that you said Ford in the title of the email. Maybe T&D didn't notice that immediately either. It's best to be  thorough and specific in written comcommunication

You're right Joel.
I should have made it easier to understand.
Like when I spelled out F O R D in my subject line, maybe he should have spelled out that he was an I D I O T in his.
Then I would have known

Agreed, I think more specific data would have avoided the confusion from the get go.  I also think I'd include type of cam, and spring pressures when asking about rocker setups.

Disagree
That is for a follow up email after he asks a few questions.
As I said, this was a preliminary email and car is under construction.
Guidance not arrogance.
The return email should have said something like;
Hi Marc
Thanks for being interested in T&D.
I'm not familiar with BBM heads and we don't have a specific pn at this time. Its true our catalogue is grouped by make of heads, but if you were to give me some specifics we may be able to dial in exactly what will work best for you.

I would have to agree with Marc on this one. One would think that with companies closing their doors, consolidating, and getting bought out that their customer service would be better. Maybe you screwed up his world  of warcraft game? Haha. I heard a saying once that seems fitting here. It's hard to soar like an eagle when your hanging around a bunch of turkeys. ;D

Agreed, the guy at T&D really botched his response, whether he understood or not.

This is one of the shortcomings of emails, texting, snail mail, etc. Miscommunication and lack of understanding can not be ironed out instantly like it can in person or on the phone. Plus a lot of us hate to type or we suck at it, so we are too brief to clearly convey the message.

Totally get that Joel.
I'm thinking on their site, where it says "contact" they should only have a phone number, not an email address.

Now we have "voice to text" on our "smart" phones.  I love it because I hate to type, but what a horribly faulty execution. It reminds me of in the original movie Dumb and Dumber when Lloyd is rehearsing what he is going to say to Mary "you make me feel like a school boy...) and we all know how that came out... :)
