As the subject line states, I am going to work on retrofitting a 6R80 in place of a C6.
Applicable Vehicle years 2011 - 2017
Ford, Mercury or Lincoln
Applicable Engine Platform 2WD 5.0L V8

I bought both of mine from www.automotix.net/used transmissions.
The one's I bought were $695 shipped with a 1 year
guarantee.
Just go to the site and use the drop down menu to input what year trans you want and it will give you about a 100 choices depending what year you put in.

Thanks for the suggestion. Can you share the claimed mileage of the trans that you got for that price? $300 seems to be about the bottom price but with mileage of 150k+. Fairly steep price curve with later years and lower mileage but that's the used market.
Here's another link with a good reputation and prices. https://www.lkqonline.com/

Both were in the low 60's.
I could have bought ones with 40 or less but with how strong these tranny's are I didn't think I needed to pay that much more money for them.
I have friends with 150,000 plus miles on their GT's and they don't baby them.

Greg - Could I ask a favor of you? If you still have those 6R80's around can you double check the 8-15/16" dimension I've circled in blue? It's hard for me to believe that from centerline to the top of that first rib is that large. Overall this is great data from the folks at PBH but this dimension has me confused. My guess is it's typo' and should be 4-15/16" based on all the other dimensions.
-
I just measured mine there. It's hard to be precise, but I'll bet it is more like 7", or maybe 6-15/16" and the 8 in the drawing is a typo...
-
Thanks Jay. I can attest to the difficulty of measuring both a trans and tunnel. 7" in that area might be doable but will require some metal work. Perhaps grinding the rib down on the trans plus some "manipulation" of the tunnel. On a good note I learned that the adaptor plate thickness is more like 1.25" vs 2". (Correction - 1.50" vs 2")

Here is a picture of the V8 6R80 next to a C6.
Jays meaurement is about right

And 1 more.

I appreciate the follow-up confirmation on the dimension as well as the additional pictures. I have a lot to think about now. My C6 has the rounder FE bell housing and there is considerable air gap all through the Cougar's tunnel. I can go up 2" vertically on the tunnel before interior contact with the A/C blower motor. That may be just enough to make the 6R80 fit. I am going to keep my eye out for an empty 6R80 case. With minimal investment I can learn a bunch.

There are some good videos on u tube about the adapters.
You can do a search for Bendtsen's Ford FE transmission adapter and watch them for some good info on the install.
Looking at the picture of your tran's I think it will change out without any clearance problems-fingers crossed but it looks like it will fit Ok.

I have talked with the guys at Bendtsen's (Speed Gems) a couple times already after watching their videos. Good people and relatively local to me. Hoping they have a Black Friday sale this year. ;D
-
If they do let me know. I need to order another adapter.

I am no longer in need of a 6R80. Here's are some pictures for comparison. Going to check for fit next week and start a new thread if things move forward.

Speed Gems is indeed having a Black Friday sale!!! Their website will be updated that day so online orders get a discount. Get your Transmission adaptor shopping list ready. I had a chat with Josh the Engineering Manager and talked at length about the kit. He was very informative. They are also a dealer for hardware and electronics that work with the transmissions.
