FE Technical Forum / Factory 69 Cobra exhaust?
« on: February 12, 2024, 10:31:16 AM »
I am restoring a 69 Cobra formal roof car and I have wondered who the original exhaust supplier to Ford was in the 60's and 70's? I mean, I am aware that Arvin was involved with this, but I am not certain they were the principle supplier? In addition, who was the secondary supplier of which Ford certainly had?

Just curious about this. Any thoughts?

Thx, Brian

FE Technical Forum / Thoughts on FE block?
« on: July 31, 2023, 03:39:33 AM »
Several years ago I had a "faux" 428SCJ built for a 69 Mach 1 Drag Pack clone. The engine builder was based in Arizona and had good feedback, seemed to know what he was doing. Keep in mind that this was before I knew that there was an FE power forum or any other related forum. Anyway, a while after I received the engine, I decided to trade out the stock oil pan for the Milodon deep sump SS style pan. I thought it was a good idea considering I was gonna run the oil cooler. When I had ordered the engine, the builder gave me the choice of an original service block or a mirror block. I chose the service block. So, I go to replace the pan only to find that once removed, the block was non reinforced. I tried contacting the builder whom is now out of business or retired. I have little doubt that this block is a 390 service block. I know that Ford made many different iterations of these blocks in standard or service block form. I guess there is a possibility that this block was conceived as a non reinforced 428 service block, but I find that unlikely. The pistons he used are Probe 428 .030 over. I am somewhat surprised at this, I mean if it is a true 390 service block, not sure why it wouldn't have machined to 428 standard bore? Anyway, for good or bad, this is the block that I have. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated! Thx, Brian

Private Classifieds / Original FE rods for sale!
« on: January 08, 2023, 03:07:23 PM »
I have several loose original FE rods for sale. I will list out;

1. 4 C6AE-C rods with 3/8ths bolts

2. 2 C7AE-B rods with 3/8ths bolts

3. 1 C3AE-C rod with 3/8ths bolts.

Nice unmolested rods that have not been drilled for 13/32 bolts. No damage, nice!

Also, some 428 pistons if someone is interested?

1. 6 428 Super pistons, later CJ standard bore.

2. 2 428CJ early pistons standard bore.

The rods are $20 each plus the ride. Discounted if someone buys the rod lot.

The pistons are free less the ride. I will say that some pistons have a few dings. But, they are not cracked in anyway. Probably nice for display or possibly useable.

Items that I am looking for;

1. 390 2V and 4V pistons. Original Ford/TRW pistons which I would use for display. one of each piston.

2. C3AE-C rod with 13/32nd bolts. Just one.

3. C6AE-C rod with 13/32nd bolts. Just one.

The items that I am looking for are for a Ford FE display that I continue working on.

For any questions or info feel free to call me or text direct! Pictures are available upon request.

Thanks much,

FE Technical Forum / 1969 Torino Cobra body work?
« on: December 17, 2022, 02:33:30 PM »
Hello folks! I apologize if I've put this under an incorrect topic, but it seemed my best choice. Ok, I have a 69 Torino Cobra formal roof car I'm restoring. The 428 engine is done and I'm currently finishing up things with the C6 trans. I am having a terrible time finding anyone willing to do the body work on this car. I am located in central Ohio and virtually everyone I've contacted so far prefers to do collision work. My car needs to be smoothed out for paint, all rust repair is done and was nicely done. The body as the car stands is not bad, but again will need some work. At last count I've spoken with about 25 places in central Ohio or in Ohio in general. Would anyone have any suggestions? I would prefer to stay within Ohio. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thx, Brian

FE Technical Forum / Trans crossmember?
« on: September 08, 2021, 08:19:32 AM »
I am (still slowly) restoring a 69 Cobra hardtop clone. I bought from a 69 Cobra parts car what I believed to be the correct transmission crossmember..........I simply assumed it was since it was in the trunk. I am now virtually certain that it is a small block crossmember and obviously someone had a small block in this Cobra parts car at one time.

Could someone please show me a picture of the correct 66/69 big block FE/C6 crossmember? I cannot find a correct, or what I believe to be a correct picture. I have also heard that some of these crossmembers can be installed reverse and made to work?

Thanks much!

FE Technical Forum / 69 Torino Cobra front sway bar bushings?
« on: April 24, 2021, 09:55:08 AM »
Restoring a clone 69 Torino Cobra formal roof car. I will be using correct 15/16ths front sway bar and two piece drop brackets. Can anyone give me part number ( good aftermarket number ) for correct bushing? I've tried what Moog had listed, did not work. So, I just randomly matched up some Moog bushings which are close. Well, with two piece bracket in place with bushings on the bar, there will be a little squeeze but not much. When I slam the original part number into the system ( C9OZ5493A), most listings come back as indirect. When I check old MPC, doesn't look like this bushing was used for much other than 69 Torino with 15/16ths bar. So, I imagine most companies condensed the part number to something close to the originals? I'll use what I have if I must, but, any thoughts would be appreciated. I do not wish to go with an aftermarket bar and brackets. Thx!

Private Classifieds / WTB; 69 Mustang/Torino FE oil cooler parts, etc!
« on: January 12, 2021, 02:11:13 PM »
Working on a "clone" 69 Torino SCJ car and need a few items. If anyone has a damaged or leaking ( drag Pack) oil cooler assy, I would be interested. In addition, upper and lower oil cooler brackets. The upper bracket is 69 Torino specific, but lower bracket is same as Mustang. Again, a clone car, these do not need to be concours parts. I will consider any and all!

Also, a decent used 3.89 ring/pinion for 9 inch. I usually hesitate on used, but, on this forum, I would trust the parts.

Thx,

FE Technical Forum / Dilemma on 69 Fairlane engine?
« on: December 21, 2020, 03:37:41 PM »
Hey folks, building a 69 Fairlane Cobra formal roof clone. I have a 428 that was built for another car; intended engine mission has changed. I'll list out engine/car specs and we can go from there.

1. First off car; 69 Fairlane formal roof, C6 auto basically stock, 3.89 rear. Probably my last resto due to health.

2. Engine; 428 service block .030 over, Lemans rods, Scat crank, Probe pistons, XE274 Cam, C6AE-R heads with appropriate CJ mods including drilled for 16 bolts. Milodon deep sump pan, Holley street Dominator intake, 3310-1 Holley 780........which I really don't care for. Oh, forgot, 75 cc chambers in heads, Probe pistons -16 cc version. Was suppose to be around 9.6:1 compression.

3. This engine was built nearly ten years ago for a 69 Mustang 4spd car with 4.30 rear. As you can tell by date, life, health and a thousand other things can get in the way.

4. New mission with regard to Fairlane; car must behave.......absolutely must! With my health, wife will probably be driving more than myself. Good idle a must, decent overall manners a must, will have cast iron exhaust manifolds (CJ) and full exhaust. Power brakes a must, etc.

5. I realize what I am giving up here.......at least to an extent to how it was built. Things just change, I need this. I am concerned about cam? I think it will be lopey? I think idle quality will be sacrificed. I am not as concerned about current intake, but wonder if I don't gain anything from something like an Edelbrock RPM?

6. Would appreciate any thoughts on this build? I'd rather make changes now than later.

7. I appreciate this forum very much! Thanks for any opinions, advice, etc!

Private Classifieds / WTB, 69 Fairlane parts!
« on: November 28, 2020, 09:29:46 AM »
Hello folks, still slowly building a clone 69 Fairlane Cobra formal roof car and needing a couple items. I am looking for a nice 69 Fairlane ( not Torino ) grille.....all three pieces, center and headlight surrounds. In addition, a set of sport mirrors. On the mirrors, the drivers remote is not important. I mean, if you have a nice mirror and remote cable is damaged, no problem. I won't be using it as a remote. Also, I kinda thought Mustang and Fairlane sport mirrors were the same, but the MPC lists two different part numbers? Anyway, that's what I'm needing for now! Hope to hear back! Thx, Brian
