What hone grit for moly rings?...
« on: May 06, 2015, 10:20:25 AM »
I'm wondering what the latest thinking is on hone grits for different types of rings used. I'll be replacing the rings in my 390 with moly faced rings since it'll be a heavy load hauler and I need to get a new hone. My old stones are wore out, but since my bores are not fresh, I'll probably use a dingle berry hone.

Check with the ring manufacturer.  It seems to run from 220 to 400.  I use a 320 hone and just split the middle.

That's what I was going to do, check with the ring maker.

Thanks for the link, Bob. That's an interesting article.

That is your best bet! Always check with the ring manufacturer. They would tell you.... JMHO
