My best friend bought an ex bad car cup car to do land speed racing with. It’s an early2000’s Ford Taurus & he bought it 8-9 yr ago.  He had intentions of letting all his gearhead buddies run it. It’s not got the latest FR9 cup motor but the previous generation of what they used.  It was built by one of the guys at Roush-Yates and has a sheeetal intake with 2 4500’s.
So a few weeks ago at the event it was gonna be my turn in the seat. I owned & drove 410” wing sprint cars for many years but had never ran anything like this.
They restrict rookies to a 1/2 mile the first run,  3/4 the second and the full mile the third. I went a pretty easy 154 the first run and the car running after me crashed causing a 1/2 hr delay.  I went 194.8 the second run still running fairly easy.  In line to make the third run and someone a few cars ahead of me broke something and oiled the track and they ended up canceling the rest of the day.  We had to go home. He’s registered for bonneville in august and I’ll have to find out if I’m on the driver rooster! LOL!!

Do I need to restrict the oil to the rockers on my new Trick Flow heads?  The passage looks noticeably smaller

FE Technical Forum / FE cam drive pin

So I ordered a kit from eBay that was supposed to be crank keys, cam pin, head dowels, fuel pump eccentric. It was much $ but it’s total crap. The only thing i could use were the head dowels and I didn’t even need them!
So I still need a cam drive pin, where do I get one?

What size are the 2 half round woodruff keys in my fe crank?  The straight one appears to be 1/4”.
And why are there 2 half round keys?  It appears only one would engage the crankshaft timing gear.

FE Technical Forum / Valve lash with aluminum heads

I’m working on my 487 and it’ll have TFS heads.  It’ll have a solid flat tappet and I’m wondering if the called for valve lash should be set the same with aluminum heads vs iron?

Like the title says. I’ve got a HEH-CG top loader that I’ll use until I come across one.

I bought this car last summer from a buddy. His dad who has long passed bought the car in 71.  The car has had an array of engines and trans over the years.  It’s been sitting for around 35 years. It came with the hurt 427.
I’ve got the body off the frame and have had the frame & all suspension pieces blasted & powder coated. With any luck I’ll get the body back on this weekend or next. I’ve got all the engine pieces I need & will start that assembly soon.  My plan is to get it running & drive it this summer and make the topside pretty next winter
