The speed pro 351C performance bearings in .020 are not only on back order but have no coating.  I was considering these King mains as there are no coated FE bearings in .020 undersize.  Any experience with these? Any reason why I wouldn't want to run them?

FE Technical Forum / Exhaust valve to bore clearance 4.155 bore.
« on: July 18, 2019, 11:44:29 PM »
I mocked up the Edelbrock heads on the block.  I have the springs off, with a spring retainer and and keepers. The valve will move about .800 before the bottom of the retainer bottoms out on the guide. At that point I have .050 clearance between the cylinder wall and the side of the exhaust valve at the above mentioned specs. There is no head gasket installed, however the Felpro 1020 is .041 compressed.
My cam is 5.76 lift.  Do all concur that the .050 is sufficient bore to valve clearance on the exhaust valve?
The 2.19 intakes have a ton of cylinder wall to valve clearance. I was surprised.

I am going to notch. Granted, putting a head on will give me a general idea. I would like to see how ford did it. I thank you in advance for your assistance.

We had this discussion on another thread. Keith Black mentioned he was running them on his 428 with the 4.130 bore. Edelbrock has the valve on a different angle and spacing than the standard FE head as per Edelbrock.  I am hoping I don't have to notch the block.
The heads are done and I haven't returned home to pick everything up from the machinist. I am just looking for clarification.

FE Technical Forum / Cylinder notching for clearance.

I am in need of pictures and how to on valve clearance notches for a 428. A direct over bore picture and how and what to use to do them. Location, or how to find the location best suited location and how deep in the cylinder edge.

                                                                        Thank you, Keith

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Joe Reath
« on: June 28, 2019, 12:53:51 PM »
I remember Joe and a few others. I wasn't aware that he had passed.  Quite colorful group to say the least. Ed "Isky" Iskadarian always reminded me of Grandpa from the Munsters. I always remember him with that stubby fat cigar in his mouth. I gather Isky is still around.  Joe Reath and Leland from Curtis and Christensen did a lot of work on my engines over the years. INtroduced me to "Fritz", which was huge into the 427 scene and Bonneville. I grew up just a few miles from McDonnell Douglas aircraft.
I can guarantee Randy knows many of the same people. I'm just not ancient yet. LOL I was a youngster about 20 then.  Damn, so much knownlege

I thought the list of who's who was interesting in his Obit.

FE Technical Forum / New Lifters on cam. How risky?
« on: June 21, 2019, 03:01:58 PM »
The damn cat got into the garage and knocked my valvetrain tray over and scattered everything. The cam with 390 miles on it broke in beautifully. I would assume at this juncture it's unsafe to reuse the lifters?  I am so pissed off I can't see straight and it's just one thing after another.

He responded to an add I posted and I can't go forward with my build until I talk to him. I have sent him Email with my phone number and two messages since Wednesday.

FE Technical Forum / Roller information. ( Push Rods)
« on: June 13, 2019, 03:19:39 AM »
At this point, I am considering a move from the flat tappet cam to a roller.  I am time constrained so I am going to have to order pushrods.
I am running Edelbrocks with adjustable rollers and Isky 3/8" pushrods with a length of 9.343. The lifter base to cup on the Erson roller is 2.033.
The SLR cam I currently have in the block came with the Johnson Hylift anti-pump up flat tappets but I couldn't get a measurement from base to cup on these.
Should I  be able to use the Isky push rod with my Dove roller valvetrain, or anyone have an idea of what I should order lengthwise to make this work?
Do I need to change the cast iron cam thrust plate? Distributor drive gear?
I have never run a roller cam before so I am unfamiliar with what I will need to change.

FE Technical Forum / Eagle Vs. Scat FE rods. 6.490. Which is better?
« on: June 12, 2019, 07:43:16 AM »
I was curious what most thought of Scat rods Vs. Eagles. If you have a preference, why? I am looking at the H beam standard length rods.

FE Technical Forum / RC12YC for use in Edelbrock heads!?
« on: June 11, 2019, 02:50:58 AM »
Edelbrock suggests RC12YC in their heads. I HATE Champion plugs. Perhaps something has changed, but somehow I doubt it. Any suggestions for use in a 428 dual quad application?

Private Classifieds / Anyone have a roller they elected not to run?
« on: June 09, 2019, 11:28:53 PM »
I am looking at possibly changing to a roller valvetrain.  Does anyone have something they decided not to run that's hydraulic and won't have such a low vacuum that I can't run power brakes? I am looking for something complete. Used is fine providing it's good to go.

FE Technical Forum / How to clean the exterior of Aluminum heads?
« on: June 07, 2019, 11:10:48 PM »
I have a set of Edelbrock heads that will need to be cleaned as I don't want to paint them blue.  I have used the mag wheel cleaner for as cast aluminum wheels to clean factory intakes and T-sump aluminum pans in the past. Is this what most of you use, or do you have another trick up your sleeve you'd be willing to share to make them look new?
