They are -.100" shorter.   The pads on TFS are +.200". The valve tip is +.100" = -.100" we are milling.

Interesting, on my TFS heads, the rocker pads are .300" taller than my stock CJ iron heads, so I need at least .200" shorter stands, .230" would be ideal.

The TFS heads do have a +.300" raised stand pad in comparison to factory and "normal" aftermarket FE heads.   However, the valves are .050" longer (5.500" OAL vs around 5.450"), so the actual net difference is +.250".

What we run into is that different rocker arm systems interface with the TFS heads differently (just like they do with other heads).   Sometimes they will just sit right on without any work (like the Harland Sharp setup), sometimes the stands need a lot whacked off (T&D's and factory non-adjustable/adjustable stands need ~.200" cut off), and sometimes they just need about .100" cut off.

What Rory is seeing is probably more typical than not.

My approach to this, if a universal stand was to be made, would be to make them .200" short and then just shim up as needed.  Otherwise there would have to be several different heights to work with different rockers.

With the examples that Brent gives, plus the idea that a stock head often isn't perfect as is...I would avoid trying to use simply the vertical dimensions to determine a amount.

I tend to cut .070 with Brent's rockers, but could probably go .100 easily.  A recent one I did with POP rockers ended up beyond .100, so the rockers do get a vote.  That being said I have only used Brent's rockers and POP rockers with the TFS heads.  Will be doing a set with some Ersons soon

I'll also add, thank you for doing this Doug, with most combos, my guess is .100 will get real close
