Looking to upgrade tranny cooler. What size thread is on the in and outlet of the tranny, looking to run a/n fittings
I am not near car now to check, I thought it was 1/8 inch npt but now Im not sure

I'm away from all my stuff at the moment, but if I remember I think there might be a difference between early & later C6's. I seem to remember the earlier ones having a small o-ring sealing the fitting to the case, then I think Ford changed to the NPT fitting.

Hadn’t run into the o ring seal.
I run -6 for trans cooler lines. If nothing else it is very easy to route.

For what it's worth, metal lines will give a fair bit of cooling capacity to the system over braided Teflon or similar. I use 5/16 NiCopp. 10 feet of additional cooling.

I would look at your trans. Most should be 1/4 NPS with an o-ring or washer - NOT NPT. If you force a NPT thread into the case you may crack the case. The o-ring fitting will seal just fin, better than any NPS. You can find -6 AN NPS washer fittings at Summit.

I used to make -6AN o-ring fittings for C4s. All my C4s use -AN lines, much nicer and easier to manage than any steel lines.

Just so everyone knows the thread is nspt. My fittings on the tranny dont have washers but
the a/n fittings do.That being said I forgot to ask him if all c-6s have that thread. I will check that out
but Im at work now.

The Ford Parts Book would specify what it is and the fittings, I'm just nowhere near my books.

Well after checking 2 of my C-6s and had two 1/4 inch nspt fittings, I ordered the right ones and
as usual I took the fitting out of the tranny in the car and it’s 1/8 nspt. I tell ya sometimes you just can’t win. So I’m just posting this so we know it could be 1 of 2 different fittings.

I don`t recall the exact sizes, but when I ran a C6 in my Fairmont, I used 75 or 76 PU truck C6 cores, which had smaller fittings than my older 66-69 C6s.

I'm back home from my travels and had a chance to look in the Ford Parts Book today - Per Ford the early C6's ( I'm going across all engine families here ) from the 1966 model year until about the 1969 model year used the 1/4-18 thread fitting. Then starting around the 1969 model year some of the cases started using the 1/8-27 thread, and some kept using the 1/4-18, I see an application for the 1/4-18 thread up through the 1972 model year. From the '73-'76 model years it looks like they all use the 1/8-27 thread, but then starting in the '77 model year to at least '79 they start using the 1/4-18 again. I don't have the Ford Parts Books after the '79 model year so I don't know if the 1/4-18 thread continued to the end of C6 production. So there are two possibilities, but it's really a mix when they were used. I didn't check every application, but my quick observation was that Ford specified an o-ring on all of them.

While we are on tranny’s which port is the one that the fluid flows out
of the front or the back. Running the cooler and I want the fluid to go in the top.

I believe the front is pressure the rear port is return. Just take a guess its 50/50 chance right.
