FE Technical Forum / Re: Ray Paquet

Mr Paquet wins ss/a at indy with a real thunder bolt l think its number 30 class wins sure makes hemi and rat look bad. He sure knows how to build a fe.

Ahh, you do know that the HEMI Darts, and Barracuda's have their own class right? The winning car ran 8.30's @ 160mph. The FE isn't going to touch that.

Most stick cars in SS run a Liberty 4 speed. Ray has been running a Jerico with a 5th gear delete. He's had it so long, and it works, so why change?

Only the 1968 Hemi Darts & Cuda’s have their own class, there are other Hemi cars that could run SS/A , correct?

The only cars that can bump from SS/B to SS/A, are the 64 light weight B body HEMI's. Most just don't run the class since it cost the same to run a AH car as it does a A or B car.

While it sounds like a great opportunity, I'm not sure I'm the guy you are looking for. Kohlmann would be the guy to talk to. I don't think my license is good for something like that? I also do not like driving someone else's car. I'm a nervous ball of s#!t driving my own stuff.

FE Technical Forum / Re: 1967 Shelby GT500 Stocker!!
« on: August 19, 2021, 01:15:00 PM »
What IS amazing is how much the rules have been BENT. ALL 428ci '67 GT500s ran DUAL fours not a single. Now they can run Edelbrock aluminum heads and an over .500 lift cam when the original was a 390GT with UNDER .500 lift. neither Hawk's nor Morgan's are even real Shelbys. No sour grapes here because these cars haul the mail for sure!!! Stock eliminator isn't what it used to be is my point. A 9 second stocker is AWESOME!!!

Certain Edelbrock heads are legal for Stock, simply because finding good stock castings isn't easy to get any more. Not like cars that have them are being pulled into salvage yards daily, like they once were. No reason the car can't be a clone as well. Not like the original cars had a mysterious extra 50hp. Not many people willing to race an original either.

FAST doesn't want to become another NHRA, does it, like it did in cutting out the 385?

FAST cut out the 385?

Nope.

51
Are the Corvettes required to retain the factory IRS?

Yes they are. That is another thing about FAST, cars must retain factory suspension. No slapper bars, or Cal Trac type bars allowed. Cars must look like they just rolled out of the dealer showroom.

52
The Cobra is excluded because it wasn't built on a factory assembly line. They were hand built cars. The Corvette went down an assembly line just like a boring Impala, or Nova. The rules basically say it must be a production vehicle, that wasn't some special option, no one knew about, and had to go through hoops to get it. The Aluminum block ZL-1 WAS advertised as a option on the cars. Just were not many made, as that option was very expensive in the day.

53
Could you go down to your local Ford dealer, and order a new Cobra, or was it through a special dealer only?

54
The killer to most combo's is the carb choice. You can build the biggest engine you want, but the cork is still going to be carb CFM. The Combo Dave Dudek is running now in the Cuda, makes nearly 1000hp, through ex manifolds, stock type carbs, and original head castings. It's a VERY tough combo to compete against.

FE Technical Forum / Re: Installing an FE main stud girdle
« on: July 27, 2021, 06:55:46 AM »
The aluminum caps are only used on iron blocks. My INDY block, which is aluminum, has billet steel caps. On a stock block, the aluminum dampens the shock the caps put on the main webs. Some people use billet steel caps, but those are thought of transferring MORE stress to the main webs.

Are the main webs a weak link in a stock block FE? If not, what is to be gained by a girdle for them?

Jay, does anyone make aluminum main caps for a FE? On higher HP stock block Mopar's, it's best to use an aluminum main cap setup. The main webs are the weak link, and using aluminum, it acts as a cushion, and doesn't beat the main webs out of the block.
