https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYIU0gTkWsA This video is from a few months ago and the truck is fully assembled now. Specs of the build are:
C7ME-A block with C1AE-A crank, C7TE-A rods with Speed-Pro 2291F pistons. I believe my static compression ratio works out to 10.25:1.
The heads are C8AE-H with SI valves, 2.02 and 1.55 and they've had very light cleaning up with cartridge rolls.
The cam I selected is Comps XE274H with their stock length pushrods and factory non-adjustable rockers.
Intake is a ported Edelbrock Streetmaster with a 1" spacer and a 770cfm QFT with vacuum secondaries; jets are 72 in front and 73 in back with a 6.5 power valve. Feeding that is a stock mechanical fuel pump.
Ignition is the Pertronix Ignitor II, Flamethrower coil and 8mm Taylor wires
Exhaust is FPA tri-y headers into 3" ball collectors to 2 chamber mufflers and 3" all the way out.
Stall convertor is a Hughes 35-25 on a stock C6 with a deep pan and external cooler.
Rear end is Ford 9" with 4:10 gears, Trak-lock with 31 spline Moser shafts.
Tires are BFG Radial T/As on American Racing 15x7; size works out to 26.5 tall.
Cam is broken in, changed the oil and filter. Cut open the filter and didn't find anything so I'm moving on. Oil pressure was around 25psi @idle (750rpm +/-) when everything was hot. The oil pump is a Melling M57. It was opened and checked for cleanliness and we did open up the ports on the block for the pump and filter bosses.
Besides figuring out my kickdown cable setup, tuning is my next phase of fun. Based on Mr. Lykins advice, the distributor was dropped in at 20 degrees on the balancer for cam break-in and left there. Primed the oil pump and carb, cranked it and fired right up! Scared a little pee out we got so excited. That's how it's set in the video and I've since pulled it back to 10 degrees advanced not counting the vacuum advance and I haven't figured out what the mechanical is giving it. Other than that, I've only adjusted idle mix on the metering plate. It does need to be jetted down as it's definitely rich out the exhaust. I'm considering replacing the distributor to the Pertronix D133710 just for giggles.
Any advice or specs I should be looking for with my timing light or vacuum gauge? I know enough to be dangerous
