Private Classifieds / Cleveland Style intake (Boss 302)
« on: November 04, 2021, 11:00:58 AM »
This might be the wrong place to post, but I know several of you guys have some intakes. I'm trying to find a tunnel ram for a Boss 302, or an adaptor for a 351C 4v to a 8.2 deck Boss 302. I have several original Boss intakes if anyone has one and wants to trade/sell. Thanks.

FE Technical Forum / 3/8 Ball/Cup Pushrods
« on: June 21, 2021, 11:17:54 PM »
I got back to the shop this evening to measure the pushrod length. I have not checked them all yet, but to get a ballpark estimate I measured a couple across the banks. They were pretty consistent at 9.1955 give or take 0.0001". I only measured a couple, so that range may change. I tried to set the adjusters as equally as possible. I snaked my dial indicator tip down on to the lifter cup, and measured preload with one full turn of the adjuster. I think Brent said one turn would do it. It was dead on. I was a little surprised how accurate just eyeballing one turn was. I didn't have any 3/8 machinist gauge balls, so I used a depth gauge to check the cup depth to know exactly how much to subtract from the overall measurement. I think I could probably use 9.200 length pushrods if I can find any.

Just curious what kind of et and mph to expect. The build is a 401 c.i., around 10:1 compression with 6090N CJ heads (lightly ported with ss vales and a 3 angle valve job) with Harland Sharp 1.76 roller rockers. It has an 800 Edelbrock AVS 2, RPM cam, and RPM intake. FlowTech headers, probably 3" exhaust. T5 transmission (I know it's a little weak. May run a 4 speed-- not sure yet) with 4.10 gears.  Race weight will be around 3400- 3600 lbs. Thanks.

FE Technical Forum / Distributor Rebuild
« on: June 19, 2021, 01:10:44 AM »
Where can I find a good rebuild kit? We can buy a new one if needed. We have several CJ distributors and some 352/390 distributors. They're all probably worn though. Thought about rebuilding one, because my dad likes points. He ran a PerTronix kit once in the 90's and it failed while on a trip, so he isn't too keen on those. I think Brent Lykins mentioned a guy who does distributors. Does he have any contact info? Thanks for any help.

FE Technical Forum / Roller Rocker Body Valve Spring Clearance
« on: June 18, 2021, 06:37:16 PM »
I'm going over my rocker arm alignment and noticed that a couple of the rockers are touching the valve spring. I'll try to get a picture. It looks like it's touching on the sides where the top wire of the spring is clocked facing the rocker arm body.

FE Technical Forum / RPM Intake CJ Heads-- Gaskets
« on: June 18, 2021, 12:07:00 PM »
I've got a couple sets of intake gaskets. The maligned Felpro 1246 and Mr. Gasket 202A. I'll be running the CJ heads and match the roof and walls of RPM intake to it. I'll probably leave the floors alone since most of the flow is up top anyway. I think the 202A will work with the RPM, but have little sealing surface on the CJ heads. Should I get more gaskets?

Also-- I assume the areas of importance regarding the intake would be the roof and short-side wall? Are there any plenum mods worth trying as well? Thanks.

FE Technical Forum / AVS 2 800 401 FE Build
« on: June 18, 2021, 12:03:38 AM »
We grabbed an Edelbrock AVS 2 800 carburetor while at Summit Racing earlier. My dad wasn't too thrilled with the idea (he's worried it'll look too Mopar for him), but I reasoned that it probably has plenty of flow, has front annular boosters which may help low rpm performance without sacrificing too much top end, and it was only $379.00. I could be totally wrong, but I figure 800 cfm is still too much for a 400 inch FE with a sub 240 @ 0.050" duration single pattern cam. I doubt it'll flow those numbers with the two annular boosters and the air valve secondary, so maybe it won't be too over carbed with a tune up kit. My brother really likes these carburetors, so I guess we'll try one out. We can always just get another Holley if it isn't all that great. What do you guys think of them?

Can someone walk me through setting up these rockers. I have an adjustable pushrod length checker. The heads have been decked and the pedestal surface was milled to match, or something like that. My dad had them milled, so I'm not totally sure.  Should I set the the thread length of the rocker, adjust the length checker to where it's not compressing the lifter, set the preload, check the valve tip pattern, and go from there? It's my first time setting an adjustable setup on an FE. I'll post some pictures of any progress. Thanks.

FE Technical Forum / FE Flowtech 12540 Headers Opinions
« on: June 13, 2021, 02:18:10 PM »
My dad bought some headers similar to these pictured below. I don't have the part number at the moment, but they look similar to the Jegs version. Should we run them? The only caveat I see is that I think they'll need to be opened up a little to fit the CJ heads. Thanks.

FE Technical Forum / Canceling Edelbrock RPM Order Intake Suggestions
« on: June 09, 2021, 04:15:06 PM »
I ordered an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and carb package 61 days ago today. This afternoon I finally received a reason for the delay. I was told, "..due to an intake machine malfunction we have no eta on your parts... we guess they'll be there in another six to eight weeks". I suppose stuff happens, so I guess I'll cancel the order and go with a Blue Thunder or a Streetmaster. Unless if I find someone who has a RPM intake stocked.

-- I think I'm leaning toward the Blue Thunder 427 MR intake. I found a 428 CJ HR listed, but I assume there would be a port mismatch with the 6090-N heads. I'm still new to the FE. I'll appreciate any suggestions.

401 cubic inches, 10.07:1, CJ heads (SS valves-3 angle valve job- light porting with bowl blend), Comp Cams springs, RPM cam and chain, Harland Sharp Roller rockers, Precision Oil Pumps end stands

FE Technical Forum / Cobra Jet head hardened valve seat porting
« on: April 13, 2021, 10:39:13 PM »
My dad just got a valve job on his Cobra Jet heads. The hardened exhaust seats have some sharp steps. There seems to be a lot of "meat" to blend back toward the bowls. What do you guys think?
