C6AE-R heads
« on: July 26, 2020, 06:14:36 PM »
Hey all

When I built my 428 I was insistent to use my C6AE-R heads

I sent them out had the valve opened to CJ size and bolted them on

They were a miserable failure because after a long crazy game of cat and mouse I found out the guides were NOT replaced as the builder said they were

I opted to go with Edelbrocks and never looked back

What I’m wondering is are these heads a good head?

Should I consider having them reworked and have new guides installed?

Just how well do these or can they be made to breathe?

Sorry so many questions

Thanks
Dave

They respond well to port work, low riser style intake port that can do 290cfm if ported.  You can dig for more info but Stan Weiss’s page has details, but I’ve found figures for Keith Craft and Les Schmader’s port work.

I am happy with the results of my build with Les Schmader ported C6AE-Rs.  They aren't called "poor man's CJ heads" for nothing.   ;)

Ok

I will hang on to them for a later date then!

I was just going through some stuff I have and trying to make a decision

I also have a set is C6AE-J that have MR style ports

Are these any good?

I have never seen a set before ?

They came on the 410 that became my 428!

Thanks
