Title: Billet heads
Post by: bobb428 on January 19, 2021, 06:03:45 PM
What ever happened with the billet canted valve heads? Jay, did you ever think about casting off that design? Now a cheaper version is what I want!

Too far from a normal FE for me.  FE valve covers won't fit, intake doesn't have the valve cover rail in it, etc.  Besides, canted valve heads mean a bigger chamber (which isn't good), and you can get the same effect as canting the valves by just raising the port (which is what I did on my heads).

Visner still offers these, but like Jay said, I don't think the FE crowd goes for them because they don't resemble an FE. For the money 385 series would be much cheaper and would look about the same.

It's not because they don't go for them, It's because there expensive! All the FE racers I know would drop on them if they weren't so expensive along with the supporting hardware! Better than any FE head out there!

If you are worried about looks, you have bigger problems!

I'll guess a cool $20K just in the complete heads, intake (less carbs, EFI) rockers and pushrods.

Maybe $30k for a complete engine, carbs too pan, flywheel to dampner, ready-to-run?

Anyone have pricing?

385/BBC head on an FE block..Of course it's going to make a lot of power..

When I look at that, I don't see a FE.  I see a custom one of a kind engine that just goes to prove that money will buy speed for those that have it to spend.  I prefer the look of factory, and make it as good as can be within the architecture of factory appearance.  Anything else is custom, and should race in a class of its own.  Billet vs cast is like knife vs gun.   Joe-JDC

really everything that dont bolt up to or replace factory or factory looking is custom.even the adapters are custom in my opinion.they do change the look of a fe to some point.

Man, i remember when Dove started offering aftermarket FE heads.... first time since the Mickey Thompson Hemi heads.... then there were Edelbrocks available much cheaper. Now how many different choices? 30?

Yeah I guess I don't see the point, when you can do that with a 385 or BBC for less money and in the case of the 385 with a lot more displacement.
