Need more expert advice!
« on: December 07, 2016, 06:23:49 PM »
I have a 1966 mercury comet cyclone with a real 427 ford fe motor stroked to 482. The shock towers are out and I already installed a mustang 2 front end. What two bolt motor mounts would you recommend that are strong for this application? I think the block was a 63 or 64 top oiler.

I also want to know who makes or sells a REVERSE 8 or 9qt oil pan with pickup for this application? Thanking you in advance.

Thank you very much barry. I bought the fe stroker kit from you about 3 years ago and shortly I will be buying the T&D rocker arm set. What about the motor mount issue? Thanks!

I would imagine that nothing stock would fit in the Stang II front end.
I have seen the funky arm thing that sticks out with the plate
to bolt to. Not sure what you have, but two bolts into the side of the
block for the mount will be plenty.
Some pictures may help.

James if you have installed a Mustang II front end I would think you have to fab your own motor mounts.
I've just gone through this process on my own car.
If you check out this thread it may help.

Maybe it can save you from making the mistakes I made. ;)

Thank you all for your replies but I have one more question? Will the 7 quart canton rear sump be enough oil to service this engine? Thanks again.

Yes, if you ensure the oil drain backs in each head are opened up, the oil supply to the heads is restricted under the one rocker bolt boss in each head and you run a std. volume oil pump.

I would say in this situation a high vol would be mandatory.
The pick up will be substantially longer so you need every advantage that you can use.

Another question? What electric fuel pump would you recommend I use for this motor? I know I'm going to have more questions like what radiator would be recommended? Thanks!

There are many ways to go.
Couple things to think about.
Fuel injection or carb? What kind of gpm will your engine need.
In tank or exterior? If exterior, where to mount it.
Filters. Where to put it/them.
Edit: Not to mention how much you want to spend.

Hey Howie wouldn't just some extra oil take care of that long pickup?

Hey Howie wouldn't just some extra oil take care of that long pickup?

Well lets say you have a setup like, hey yours, lol
You put 8 quarts in the pan, if you can get it in there? maybe 7.
You run the engine hard for 10 or 11 seconds.
The engine will pump about 1.5 to 2 quarts up into each bank.
And that is if you have excellent drain back.
Really it's almost 4 quarts not in the pan.
So really you are at the depth of 3 to 4 quarts.
Now with your longer pickup I think you will need the extra
lift that a larger pump will provide.
That's about how I see it. :)

If you run an electric pump , summit sells a low oil pressure shut off for your oil sending unit so if something happens it will turn the pump off .. Bud

I've had this switch with a carter hp 4600 for a few years, no issues.
