Great pics, you can really see the wear pattern on 2-5, opposite the oil hole.  Re-install those bearings with the hole down and I'll bet you won't see the problem again.

One thing though - you said you saw a bunch of metal shavings in the oil filter?  Those bearings don't look worn enough to me to throw off a bunch of metal shavings.  Maybe they are, or maybe your definition of a lot of metal in the filter is different from mine, but in any case make sure you check everything else before going back together, just in case...
