I am looking at a 67 Cougar at ADM Auto Sales limited 942 Clearfield St Morehead Ky. Was listed on Facebook.. Price is more than right and dealers says no charge delivery to Wi. If it's a real deal I can't pass it up. But need to allay my natural skepticism.. Has anybody heard of or know this dealership? I would be willing to pay for someone's time just to lay eyes on it and confirm it is the car being advertised..Not looking for a full inspection.
Can't be too careful these days

Royce I am about an hour away and have a coworker in Morehead. I sent him a message to see if he knows anything about them or maybe even seen the car. I'll let you know what I hear and may be able to sneak up there myself in the next couple of days, if that is quick enough.

That would be a huge help.. It's probably legit, but the pictures in the ad are from when the car was on Bring a trailer auction. That makes me wary..I'll send a link to their site.. 67 Cougar Limefire green

Brings back memories from high school. A good friend in the neighborhood had a 1967 Cougar XR7 with a 289 but 4 speed. It was originally light yellow but he got it repainted light metallic blue. He was 16 and a year older than me and another of our friends so he would sometimes drive us to school, out cruising to the ice cream joint, etc. Of course, his next car after a year or two was a big block '68 Camaro RS convertible. :( He pointed out it was a year newer. ;D And that you could tell the difference between '68 and later cars because that year it was required to have front side turn signals.
Anyway, hope the purchase pans out.

Lime frost is the Mercury color. Also check the turn signal relays in the drivers side trunk they often get modified as the lights have 5 circuits.

Royce he said he would try to find it tomorrow while he is out. I'll send you PM for what you would want to see.

Shout out to Greg. He saved my butt on the 67 Cougar.. It was a total scam but a very elaborate one. I nearly bit, but he was able to send a friend over to the dealer and found out someone had stole their dealer identity and already several people had wired money on the Cougar.. This is an example of the great people that participate in this forum.. Greg thanks again.. if there is ever anything you need... Well maybe a Jay Brown built Cammer would be off the table.. lol

Glad to hear you dodged that bullet, Royce! Skepticism when buying a classic car is always a good thing...

Glad to help Royce. Also glad you weren't the guy that supposedly sent $20k.

So how did this work? Is the website a fake? If the auto dealer is real, did the scammers fake an entire website with fake cars? If the website and dealer are real, how did they insert a fake car? Nothing makes sense here.
-
Doug it was a fake website using a legitimate dealer's name.. When you call the number you are put in contact with the scammer..The cars on the site were all pulled from other ads. Prices were attractive..They provided a copy of the title and vin of the car they were advertising. I received a very official bill of sale with electronic signature of the real owner of the business. Next step would have been to wire the money.
3 red flags Sales person did not have a Kentucky accent lol.. They really wanted to get the deal done quickly, and the one thing that caused me to dig deeper was the offer of free delivery withing 1000 miles Who does that.... Checking the background you get info on the legitimate dealer so everything looks OK...Thank god Greg had someone actually put eyes on the place and uncover the scam... The ads are still up on Facebook

Wow, that is a brazen elaborate scam! All the cars were photographed the same way, which made it seem very legitimate as far as the website goes. They apparently lifted an entire inventory from somewhere. It's a good thing your Spider senses kicked in.

I know I wouldn't have caught it at first sight, but wouldn't it be odd for a classic vehicle title to be in the name of a dealer? I would think it would be in the name of an individual with a later Dealer Assignment filled in.
I'm glad you did your due diligence, Royce! Man those scammers are getting clever...

I found the same thing as odd.. I checked with a classic car dealer I know, and he said there are still a few states that allow the dealer to title in the dealership's name.. Not sure about Ky
